Updated October 25, 2026Two-Mouth Shareable Water Bottle with a Pull-Out Second Spout
Sharing a water bottle on a hike, at practice or in the car is common, and so is the hesitation: nobody wants to drink from the rim someone else just used. People pour from above and spill, or leave the bottle half full and waste it. This bottle gives each person a mouth of their own. Around the normal fixed mouth sits a second cone-shaped ring. Pulled upward, it rises above the threaded collar and becomes a separate drinking rim that the other person uses; friction between the two cones holds it up. Pushed back down, a soft silicone catch on its top clicks into a notch at the top of the threaded collar, and the screw cap closes over both with a rubber seal pressing on the inner mouth.

Splat! What let you down?
👥
Two separate mouths
A fixed inner mouth and a pull-out outer mouth, so two people never share a rim.
⬆️
Pull up to use
The cone-shaped outer mouth slides up above the threaded collar and is held by friction.
🔒
Silicone clip-down
A soft silicone catch clicks the outer mouth into a notch when it is pushed down.
🧢
One cap seals both
The screw cap closes over both mouths, its rubber ring sealing on the inner mouth.

The problem
According to the patent, people often end up sharing one bottle of water, but because everyone drinks from the same mouth, many worry about hygiene and either refuse, pour into their mouth from above and spill on their clothes, or leave the rest of the water to be thrown away. The patent sets out to let two people drink from the same bottle using different mouths.
The solution
- The fixed mouth (1), the threaded collar (3) and the bottle (8) are one piece. The fixed mouth is a truncated cone.
- A movable mouth (2), also a truncated cone, sits in the gap between the fixed mouth and the collar and is lower than the collar when pushed down.
- A flexible catch (4) of soft silicone on top of the movable mouth bends to snap into a notch (7) at the top of the collar.
- The cap (10) screws onto the collar’s outer thread (5) with its inner thread (9), pressing the catch against the collar wall, while a rubber seal ring (6) in the cap presses on the top of the fixed mouth.
- To use the second mouth, the catch is freed from the notch and the movable mouth is pulled up. The diameters are chosen so that the fixed mouth’s wide rim (11) is smaller than the movable mouth’s wide rim (12) and larger than its narrow rim (13), so the friction between the cones holds the movable mouth up.

Who it is for
- Drinkware brands looking for a simple, demonstrable feature in a crowded water bottle market.
- Sports and outdoor retailers selling bottles for team practice, hiking and road trips.
- Promotional products companies that want a bottle with a talking point for events and giveaways.
- Family and kids’ bottle brands where siblings and parents share one bottle.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Fixed mouth | Inner, everyday drinking rim. |
| 2 | Movable mouth | Outer cone that pulls up as the second rim. |
| 3 | Threaded collar | Holds the cap; notch (7) at its top. |
| 4 | Silicone catch | Clips the movable mouth down. |
| 5, 9 | Outer and inner threads | Collar and cap threads. |
| 6 | Rubber seal ring | In the cap; seals on the fixed mouth. |
| 8 | Bottle | One piece with the fixed mouth and collar. |
| 10 | Cap | Closes both mouths. |
Using it
- Unscrew the cap and drink from the inner mouth as usual.
- To share, flip the silicone catch out of its notch and pull the outer mouth up - it stays up by friction.
- Hand the bottle over - the other person drinks from the raised outer mouth.
- Push the outer mouth down until the catch clicks into the notch, and screw the cap back on.

Applications
Couples and friends on the go
Two people share one bottle on a walk or drive without sharing a rim.
Team sports practice
Coaches and players often pass bottles around; a second mouth reduces direct contact.
Families with children
Parents and kids can share one bottle on outings, with each using their own mouth.
Hiking and travel
Carrying one bottle for two people saves weight and space in a daypack.
Events and promotions
A bottle with a clear “share it” story suits marketing campaigns and giveaways.
Where it is less suitable
- Medical-grade hygiene - two mouths reduce rim contact, but the water inside is still shared.
- Carbonated drinks - the extra joint between the cones is not designed for pressure.
- Insulated steel bottles - the patent’s nested cones suit molded plastic; a double-wall steel version needs redesign.
Frequently asked questions
How does the second mouth work?
A cone-shaped outer ring sits around the bottle’s normal mouth. Pull it up and it becomes a separate drinking rim; friction between the two cones holds it there. Push it down and a silicone catch clips it into a notch.
Who drinks from which mouth?
The owner uses the fixed inner mouth; the person they share with uses the raised outer mouth. Color-coding the outer ring makes this obvious.
Does it leak?
With the cap on, a rubber ring seals on the inner mouth and the catch is pressed against the collar. The cone fit and seal are leak-tested on samples, including upside-down tests.
How is it cleaned?
The movable mouth can be designed to come off for washing; otherwise it is rinsed with a bottle brush. Dishwasher safety is confirmed by testing.
What sizes are possible?
The patent does not fix a size. Common 500-1000 ml bottles work; the mouth diameter is set for comfortable drinking.
Can it be made in stainless steel?
The nested cones suit molded plastic. A steel bottle could carry a plastic two-mouth insert in the neck, which is a design option.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict the design in the US or in China. Water bottle mouths and lids may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
