What the claims cover, in plain language
Claim 1 - a luggage case comprising a cabinet with a matched case lid and block, enclosing an accommodating chamber. Inside the chamber, a first support column and a second support column have one end pressing against each other and the other ends connected to the inner sidewalls of the lid and block respectively. The first support column has an installation cavity with a card slot at its opening facing the outside of the lid. A telescopic rod extends flexibly along the cavity axis, and a desktop on the rod’s outer side engages the card slot by clamping.
Claim 2 - a fixed ring at the cavity opening improves the telescopic rod’s shaft stability; the ring is fixedly attached around the rod shaft and mounted at the opening by countersunk screws. Claim 3 - the fixed ring includes coaxial small ring and big ring parts; a short slot at the cavity opening receives the big ring, which is screwed to the first support column, while the small ring is embedded in the cavity. Claim 4 - the desktop’s inner circumference has multiple fixture blocks, and the card slot bottom has multiple slots of identical size and shape that cooperate with the fixture blocks to prevent the desktop from falling off. Claim 5 - each fixture block includes a sequentially connected cylindrical block and a spherical build, where the build’s diameter is greater than the block’s diameter. Claim 6 - a mounting hole on the desktop’s outer side holds a lantern ring, and a pull ring is movably socketed on the lantern ring. Claim 7 - the pull ring’s diameter is smaller than the mounting hole’s diameter, and its thickness is smaller than the mounting hole’s thickness. Claim 8 - a telescoping knob on the block side and universal wheels on the cabinet bottom surface.
This is a simplified reading for orientation only. The legal scope is defined by the exact claim wording in the official Chinese document.
What this means for US production
This patent was filed only in China and is now lapsed due to non-payment of annual fees, so it no longer restricts anyone in China either. It has no US or other foreign counterpart.
Two points to settle early:
- Other patents may exist. Luggage structures with integrated tables, telescopic handles and internal bracing are covered by various patents worldwide, so a freedom-to-operate (FTO) review of the telescopic rod mechanism, fixture block locking system and internal support column layout is recommended before tooling.
- Weight and balance. Adding a desktop, rod and support columns inside the shell increases the empty weight and shifts the center of gravity; the final dimensions, material thickness and wheel placement must be set in design and confirmed on prototypes to ensure the case rolls stably.
Customization and manufacturing
What can be customized
| Area | Options |
|---|---|
| Shell material | PC, ABS, PC+ABS blend, aluminum frame |
| Overall size | Carry-on or checked dimensions to be confirmed in design |
| Desktop size | Surface area and shape set in design based on target laptop sizes |
| Rod mechanism | Number of telescopic sections, locking detents |
| Locking system | Fixture block shape, slot count, pull ring style |
| Wheels | Universal wheel diameter, single or double spinner |
| Interior | Lining fabric, divider panels, strap layout around the support columns |
Things to plan for (US market)
- CPSC 16 CFR 1500 / ASTM F963 - if marketed for children under 12, the case and table components must meet toy or children’s product safety rules including lead and phthalate limits.
- California Proposition 65 - plastics, paints and metal finishes must be screened for listed chemicals.
- TSA lock compatibility - US buyers expect integrated TSA-accepted locks on hard-shell luggage; the lock cutout must be planned around the card slot and support columns.
How a project runs
- Inquiry - target size, shell material, desktop capacity and quantity.
- Design - CAD modeling of the cabinet, support columns, installation cavity, rod and fixture blocks.
- Prototype - 3D printed or CNC machined samples to test rod extension, desktop clamping and shell stability.
- Pilot run - injection molds for the shell and desktop, extrusion or machining for the rod, assembly and drop testing.
- Production - mass molding, hardware fitting, lining assembly, wheel installation and quality inspection.
Quantities & timeline
The hard shell requires large injection molds or vacuum-forming dies depending on the chosen plastic, while the telescopic rod and fixed ring need precision machining or dedicated tooling. The fixture blocks and card slot features are molded directly into the shell and desktop parts. Cycle testing for the rod mechanism and drop tests for the loaded case take most of the validation phase. Send us your target size, shell material, desktop requirements, estimated quantity and timeline and we will reply with options.
