Foldable Lamp Display Stand with Rack-and-Pinion Lift

Traditional lighting displays are bulky and difficult to ship. This design solves that by integrating a mechanical lift into a collapsible frame. A simple turn of a handle drives a rack-and-pinion system, extending the central rod and deploying the upper display arms automatically. The base legs fold flat, and the lamp mounts rotate for quick attachment. It turns a large, static display into a portable, tool-free setup suitable for exhibitors who need to change layouts frequently.

The problem

Lighting manufacturers and retailers often struggle with displaying large or numerous fixtures. Traditional stands are rigid, heavy, and require significant space for shipping and storage. Setting them up usually involves complex assembly with screws or brackets, which is time-consuming and prone to damage during repeated moves. For exhibitors moving between trade shows, carrying bulky, non-collapsible structures is inefficient. There is a need for a display solution that can be lifted mechanically to show products at eye level but collapsed into a small package for easy transit.

The solution

The patent describes a foldable lamp display stand that uses a mechanical lifting system to extend the display area while allowing the structure to collapse completely.

  1. Central Column: A fixed rod serves as the main spine. Inside it, a sliding rod moves vertically.
  2. Lift Mechanism: A rack is attached to the sliding rod and passes through a slot in the fixed rod. A handle mounted on a support seat rotates a gear that meshes with this rack. Turning the handle raises or lowers the sliding rod.
  3. Base Support: At least three support rods are hinged around the bottom of the fixed rod. These fold inward toward the center when not in use.
  4. Upper Arms: Multiple supporting arms are hinged to the top of the sliding rod. As the rod rises, these arms deploy outward to hold the lamps.
  5. Lamp Holders: Sliding blocks on the arms hold vertical lifting rods. The tops of these rods carry platforms for the lamps.
  6. Mounting System: Lamp backing rings feature convex blocks that fit into concave holes on the holder rods. The ring rotates 180 degrees to lock the lamp in place.

Who it is for

  • Trade Show Exhibitors: Companies that need to set up and tear down lighting booths quickly without specialized tools or teams.
  • Retail Store Managers: Businesses requiring flexible floor displays that can be adjusted in height or moved to different store sections easily.
  • Lighting Manufacturers: Brands producing sample units for distributors who value portability and professional presentation.
  • Event Planners: Professionals organizing temporary exhibitions where space is limited and setup speed is critical.

How it works

The main parts

No.PartWhat it does
Fixed RodCentral column housing the slide groove and support seat.
Sliding RodInner tube that moves up/down via the rack; carries top arms.
RackToothed strip on the sliding rod, exposed through the fixed rod’s slot.
Handle & GearRotates to drive the rack, controlling the height extension.
Support RodsHinged legs at the base that fold inward for storage.
Supporting ArmsHinged arms at the top that spread out as the rod lifts.
Sliding BlocksMove along the arms to adjust horizontal position.
Lamp Lifting RodsVertical rods holding the lamp platforms.
Backing RingsRotate to lock lamps onto the lifting rods.

Operating Steps

  1. Setup: Unfold the base support rods until they form a stable tripod or quadpod.
  2. Extension: Turn the handle on the support seat. The gear engages the rack, pushing the sliding rod upward.
  3. Deployment: As the sliding rod rises, the hinged supporting arms swing outward, lifting the lamp holders to display height.
  4. Loading: Attach lamps by placing their backing rings over the lifting rods and rotating them 180 degrees to lock the convex block into the concave hole.
  5. Teardown: Reverse the process. Lower the rod by turning the handle back, fold the arms and base rods, and secure for transport.

Applications

Trade Shows and Expos

Exhibitors can transport multiple stands in a single crate. The rack-and-pinion lift allows one person to raise the display to eye level in seconds, maximizing visibility in crowded halls.

Retail Floor Displays

Stores can adjust the height of the display based on traffic flow or seasonal promotions. The folding base means the unit can be stored in a back room when not in use, freeing up valuable sales floor space.

Showroom Presentations

Distributors and sales representatives can bring fully assembled-looking displays to client meetings. The mechanical lift ensures a smooth, premium motion that reflects well on the brand image.

Temporary Installations

For pop-up shops or hotel lobbies, the tool-free assembly reduces labor costs. The sturdy folding base provides stability without needing permanent anchoring.

Where it is less suitable

  • Permanent Outdoor Installations: The mechanism relies on manual operation and folding joints, which may not suit weather-exposed, fixed applications without additional sealing.
  • Very Heavy Industrial Fixtures: The patent focuses on display mechanics; extremely heavy loads might require more robust structural engineering than described.
  • Single-Light Spotlights: This design is optimized for multi-lamp arrays; using it for a single bulb would be inefficient.

Frequently asked questions

How does the stand lift the lamps?

It uses a rack-and-pinion system. A toothed rack is attached to the inner sliding rod. When you turn the handle, a gear engages the rack, driving the rod upward. This mechanical advantage makes it easy to raise the display even with several lamps attached.

Is it hard to assemble?

No. The design is intended for tool-free setup. You unfold the base legs, turn the handle to raise the arms, and attach the lamps by rotating their backing rings into the locked position. The entire process takes minutes.

Can I roll it around?

Yes, Claim 3 specifies that the ends of the support rods can be fitted with rollers. This allows the user to tilt the stand back and roll it across the floor, which is useful for moving it between rooms or loading it into a truck.

What types of lamps fit this stand?

The patent describes a generic locking mechanism using a convex block on the lamp ring and a concave hole on the stand. It is designed for standard light fixture bases, but custom adapters can be manufactured for specific socket types (e.g., E26, GU10) depending on the client’s needs.

Is the mechanism durable?

The rack and gear are subject to wear. Proper material selection (hardened steel or high-grade polymers) and lubrication are key. The design allows for replacement of the sliding rod or gear assembly if needed.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent is active in China but has no US counterpart. Therefore, manufacturing and selling this specific design in the US is not restricted by this Chinese patent. However, we recommend a freedom-to-operate check to ensure no existing US patents cover similar mechanical display stands.
