What the claims cover, in plain language

Claim 1 - a climbing toy mat whose obstacle mat body has a rubber air cushion at the bottom with a plastic plate inside and a rubber layer on it; an arc-shaped obstacle on top and an arc-shaped inflation block in front of it. The obstacle is a curved airbag with an air tube and hose, a rubber ring and fixing sheets inside, and three bump structures on top, each filled through a nozzle tube with two air holes - one opening into the airbag, one into the bump.

Claim 2 - each bump is a filling bubble on a support arc with reinforcing ribs, hinge strips, a through rod and limit pieces. Further claims - the rectangular sloped obstacle with its own inflation block, the base inflation block and the parts that hold them together.

This is a simplified reading for orientation only. The legal scope is defined by the exact claim wording in the official Chinese document.

What this means for US production

This patent was filed only in China. It is still in force in China, so making or selling this design in China would need the owner’s permission while it lasts (at most until 2038-07-23). It has no US or other foreign counterpart and does not restrict the design outside China.

Two points to settle early:

  • Other patents may exist. Baby play mats, foam climbers and inflatable activity centers are sold by many US toy brands, some with design patents on their shapes, so a freedom-to-operate (FTO) review of the obstacle shapes is advisable before tooling.
  • Simplify for safety. The patent’s internal bump mechanism has several small parts; for an under-3 toy, the design is simplified so no small part can come loose.

Customization and manufacturing

What can be customized

AreaOptions
SizeMat footprint, hump and ramp heights
MaterialNatural rubber, TPU or PVC-free air chambers; soft fabric cover
ObstaclesHump only, ramp only, both, or add-on modules
ValvesRecessed safety valves, quick-inflate valves, pump included
ColorsNeutral or bright colors, printed patterns
PackagingRetail box with pump, daycare packs

Things to plan for (US market)

  • ASTM F963 (16 CFR 1250) - the mandatory US toy safety standard, including tests for small parts, sharp edges, and use-and-abuse.
  • Small parts rule (16 CFR 1501) - for children under 3, no part (valve caps, bump pieces) may become a choking hazard after testing.
  • CPSIA - lead and phthalate limits, third-party testing, tracking labels and a Children’s Product Certificate.
  • Latex - natural rubber chambers carry allergy concerns; TPU or synthetic rubber is often preferred.
  • California Prop 65 - plastics, rubbers and inks are screened.

How a project runs

  1. Inquiry - mat size, obstacles, materials and quantity.
  2. Design - chamber shapes, valve positions, simplified bump design, cover.
  3. Prototype - samples for stability, puncture and seam tests.
  4. Pilot run - ASTM F963 and CPSIA testing at a CPSC-accepted lab.
  5. Production - chamber molding or welding, valve fitting, cover sewing, packing.

Quantities & timeline

The air chambers need dip, blow or RF-welding tools depending on the material, the base plate needs a simple mold, and valves are sourced or molded. Safety testing for an under-3 product takes most of the time. Send us your mat size, obstacles, materials, quantity and target price and we will reply with options.
