Patent CN112869267B
Updated October 31, 2026Silicone Garden Digging Glove with Modular Blade and Tool Connectors
Traditional garden gloves protect hands but cannot dig, plant, or cut without switching tools. This silicone glove integrates a modular mounting groove on the back of the fingers. Insert a splicing block with wedge cutters to plane soil quickly, or swap in a tubular connector with internal rubber stoppers to scoop earth around seedlings. A thumb plate adds cutting capability, while curved scrapers on the fingertips clear debris. All components are made of silica gel or hard rubber for flexibility and grip.

Splat! What let you down?
🧤
Silicone glove body
Main body, thumb plate, and seal ring are all silica gel for flexibility and water resistance.
🔩
T-slot modular mount
Front mounting piece has a T-shaped groove accepting either a blade block or a planting connector.
⛏️
Wedge-cutting splicing block
Insertable block with two inclined bed knives planes soil quickly when embedded in the T-groove.
🌱
Soil-lifting connector
Hollow tubular insert with annular rubber stoppers captures and lifts earth around small plants.

The problem
Standard garden gloves require users to carry separate trowels, knives, and planting tools, then constantly switch between wearing and removing them. Accessories on existing gloves are often fixed, cannot be changed for different tasks, and do not allow quick soil planing or targeted planting. When digging or transplanting small seedlings, loose soil falls away from conventional scoops, making precise placement difficult.
The solution
- The main body (1) is a silica gel glove with uniformly spaced bases (101) and arc-shaped wedge-section scrapers (102) at the fingertips.
- A rectangular mounting piece (3) sits behind the fingers, connected by bands, with a T-shaped mounting groove (301) and two internal limiting pieces (302).
- A circular top piece (2) of hard rubber with hemispherical top blocks (201) sits at the middle front end.
- A splicing block (4) embeds into the T-groove; its clamping grooves (401) lock onto the limiting pieces, and two inclined bed knives (402) protrude below for soil planing.
- Alternatively, a connector (5) inserts into the same groove; its round tubular insert (501) contains annular wedge-shaped rubber stop blocks (502) that grip soil inside the tube.
- A silica gel mounting plate (6) with two cutting pieces (601) attaches at the thumb position.
- A silica gel sealing ring (7) bonds inside the glove bottom.

Who it is for
- Garden tool brands seeking an integrated wearable dig-and-plant accessory line beyond standard gloves.
- Commercial landscapers who need rapid soil planing and seedling handling without frequent tool changes.
- Home gardening retailers offering multi-function silicone gloves as a premium SKU over basic nitrile pairs.
- Protective equipment manufacturers expanding from sports gear into modular silicone gardening products.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Main body | Silica gel glove base with fingertip scrapers (102) and inner part (103). |
| 2 | Top piece | Hard rubber circular cap with hemispherical blocks (201) at front center. |
| 3 | Mounting piece | Rectangular T-slot carrier behind fingers with limiting pieces (302). |
| 4 | Splicing block | Interchangeable blade insert with clamping grooves (401) and bed knives (402). |
| 5 | Connector | Tubular planting insert with internal rubber stop blocks (502). |
| 6 | Mounting plate | Thumb-positioned silica gel plate with cutting pieces (601). |
| 7 | Sealing ring | Bonded silica gel ring at glove interior bottom. |
Swapping tools and digging
- To plane soil: align the splicing block (4) with the T-groove (301); push until limiting pieces (302) snap into clamping grooves (401); the bed knives (402) now extend below the glove for fast digging.
- To plant seedlings: remove the block and insert the connector (5); push the tubular insert (501) into soil; earth enters the tube and contacts the rubber stop blocks (502), which fix the soil plug for lifting and transplanting.
- Cutting: use the thumb-mounted cutting pieces (601) for trimming roots or stems.
- Clearing: flex the fingertips so the arc scrapers (102) brush away debris.

Applications
Home vegetable beds
Gardeners can plane rows and drop seedlings using one glove instead of switching to a trowel every few seconds during weekend planting sessions.
Commercial nursery transplanting
Staff handling hundreds of small potted plants per day use the connector mode to scoop soil plugs without dropping them, reducing time lost to re-digging scattered substrate.
Landscaping root work
When clearing invasive weeds or trimming root balls, the thumb cutting pieces (601) let workers slice through fibrous material without reaching for a separate knife.
School and community gardens
Volunteers with varying skill levels benefit from the single-tool design, since fewer accessories mean less confusion about which implement goes where during group planting events.
Where it is less suitable
- Heavy clay or rocky soil – silica gel and rubber components may deform under extreme compaction forces better suited to steel-handled tools.
- Cold-climate winter gardening – the patent describes no thermal insulation; bare silicone offers limited warmth protection.
- Precision bonsai or orchid work – the tubular connector’s fixed diameter may be too large for delicate micro-transplanting tasks.
Frequently asked questions
How do you switch between digging and planting?
The front mounting piece has a T-shaped groove. Push the splicing block in until its clamping grooves snap onto the internal limiting pieces for soil planing. To plant, pull the block out and slide the tubular connector in; its internal rubber stoppers capture soil plugs automatically.
Why is everything made of silicone and rubber?
The patent specifies silica gel for the main body, thumb plate, and seal, and hard rubber for the top piece and stop blocks. This keeps the whole glove flexible, waterproof, and safe against skin irritation while still providing rigid enough edges for scraping and cutting.
Does it come in different hand sizes?
Sizing is set in design and confirmed on prototypes. Common adult ranges follow standard glove circumference measurements, with the mounting piece scaled proportionally so the T-groove alignment stays consistent across sizes.
Can I wash it after working in wet soil?
Yes. Because the body, plate, and seal are all bonded silica gel rather than fabric, rinse under running water and air dry. Avoid solvents that could degrade the silicone bond lines.
Is the thumb cutter sharp enough for roots?
The patent describes cutting pieces on a silica gel plate, not replaceable steel blades. They handle soft stems and thin roots; tough woody material may require a separate pruner. Cutter geometry is confirmed on prototypes.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent is filed only in China and remains in force there, so it restricts manufacture and sale within China but has no US counterpart. However, other US patents may cover similar wearable garden tools; we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production in the US market.
Are you affiliated with the patent owner?
No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
