Adjustable Radian Hair Removal Roller Brush with Pneumatic Surface Adaptation

Standard lint rollers fail on curves. A flat adhesive sheet cannot follow the contour of a sofa armrest, a car dashboard, or a folded garment, leaving dust in the crevices. This design solves that by introducing a pneumatic adjustment mechanism directly into the handle. When you press the slider on the handheld rod, air is transferred to internal bags within the roller head. These bags push against soft rubber elastic pads, causing the outer polyester cloth to bulge outward or dip inward. You can tune the roller’s curve to match the object you are cleaning. Once finished, reversing the pressure creates a gap between the cloth and the core, allowing the collected hair layer to detach cleanly rather than sticking permanently to the tool.

The problem

Most lint rollers and hair brushes have a fixed cylindrical shape. This works well on flat surfaces like a table or a floor, but fails when used on objects with curves, such as the armrest of a sofa, the steering wheel of a car, or the folds of a jacket. On these surfaces, the rigid roller only touches a small part of the area, missing dust and hair in the recesses. Furthermore, traditional sticky rollers often retain hair deep in the adhesive grooves, requiring users to tear off sheets frequently or struggle to clean the tool itself. There is a need for a brushing tool that can dynamically adjust its contact surface to match the geometry of the object being cleaned, while also offering a method to release collected debris easily.

The solution

  1. Adaptive Curvature: The roller head contains a series of soft rubber elastic pads backed by adjustable airbag strips. By manipulating a slider on the handheld rod, air is pumped into these bags.
  2. Surface Shaping: When inflated, the airbags push the rubber pads outward, creating a convex bulge in the polyester yarn cloth cover. This allows the roller to dig into grooves or wrap around protruding curved surfaces. Conversely, deflating them allows a concave profile for fitting over domed shapes.
  3. Easy Debris Release: After cleaning, the user reverses the air flow. This causes the inner structure to expand slightly away from the cloth, creating a “suspended hair adhesion layer” gap. The collected hair detaches from the cloth more easily because the surface tension and physical contact are reduced.
  4. Mechanical Integration: The entire assembly is housed in a rotatable functional shell attached to a metal rod. The handle features a sliding groove where a sheet moves up and down to control the internal transmission airbag, which connects via airflow grooves to the roller head.

Who it is for

  • Automotive Detailing Brands: Companies producing interior cleaning kits who need tools that can effectively reach dashboard vents, seat contours, and steering wheels without scratching leather or fabric.
  • Furniture Care Specialists: Makers of upholstery cleaning accessories who require brushes that can adapt to the varied curves of sofas, chairs, and bed frames, ensuring thorough hair removal from seams and arms.
  • Pet Owner Product Lines: Retailers targeting households with shedding pets, offering a reusable alternative to disposable sticky tapes that can navigate complex furniture geometries and self-clean.
  • Industrial Textile Workers: Facilities handling fabric rolls or garments where lint accumulation on curved machinery parts needs regular clearing with a tool that conforms to the equipment’s shape.

13, 14Sliding Groove & SheetUser-operated interface to trigger the pneumatic system.
30Functional ShellRotates on the rod; holds the roller assembly.
21Carrying Cross BarInternal support structure within the roller head.
24Soft Rubber Elastic PadProvides flexibility and compression for surface adaptation.
29Adjustable Airbag StripInflates/deflates to change the shape of the rubber pad and cloth.
18Polyester Yarn Cloth CoverThe outer brushing surface that contacts the object.
19Adjusting Groove PortionTexture on the cloth that changes depth based on air pressure.

Operating Steps

  1. Adjust the Shape: Slide the control sheet on the handle to direct air into the specific airbag strips inside the roller.
  2. Conform to Surface: For a curved object like a sofa arm, inflate the bags to make the cloth convex, allowing it to hug the curve. For a recessed area, adjust to a concave or flat state.
  3. Brush the Area: Roll the brush over the surface. The rough texture of the polyester yarn scrapes hair and lint from the material.
  4. Release Debris: When full, reverse the air pressure. The internal expansion separates the cloth from the core, helping the accumulated hair layer detach cleanly.
  5. Rewind if Needed: Rotate the butt joint pieces to rewind the cloth strip for continued use or storage.

Applications

Car Interior Cleaning

Drivers and detailers use the convex setting to clean the curved surfaces of dashboards, center consoles, and steering wheels. The adjustable radius ensures that lint is removed from the intricate gaps around buttons and vents where flat rollers miss.

Upholstered Furniture Maintenance

Owners of velvet or fabric sofas can adapt the brush to the rounded armrests and cushion seams. The soft rubber backing prevents damage to delicate fabrics while the pneumatic adjustment allows the bristles to penetrate deep into the crevices where pet hair accumulates.

Clothing and Wardrobe Care

For coats, jackets, and trousers hanging in closets, the brush can be adjusted to fit the shoulder curves or sleeve folds. This provides a more effective lint removal than a rigid stick, especially on structured garments where flat contact leaves areas untouched.

Pet Bedding and Toys

Pet owners use the tool to clean irregularly shaped dog beds, cat trees, and stuffed toys. The ability to switch between convex and concave profiles allows the brush to wrap around spherical toys or flatten out for large sleeping mats, capturing fur efficiently.

Where it is less suitable

  • Flat Floor Sweeping: While it can pick up debris, a dedicated vacuum or broom is faster for large, flat horizontal surfaces.
  • Heavy Industrial Grime: The polyester yarn cloth is designed for hair and light lint; it may wear quickly if used on abrasive concrete or oily industrial floors.
  • Single-Use Convenience: Users accustomed to tearing off sticky paper sheets may find the mechanical adjustment and rewinding process slower than simple disposables.

Frequently asked questions

How does the surface actually change shape?

The roller head contains soft rubber pads backed by small airbags. When you slide the control on the handle, air is pushed into these bags. This forces the rubber pads to bulge outward, creating a convex curve on the outer cloth. Reversing the action or adjusting different zones can create a concave or flat profile, matching the object you are cleaning.

Is it better than a sticky tape roller?

It offers different advantages. Sticky tapes are disposable and work best on flat surfaces. This roller is reusable and adjusts to curved surfaces like sofa arms or car dashboards. It also has a mechanism to help release collected hair, reducing the hassle of peeling off stuck debris compared to some traditional brushes.

Can it clean deep pile carpets?

The patent focuses on removing hair and lint from surfaces like furniture, clothing, and car interiors. While the polyester yarn cloth is effective on textured surfaces, it is not described as a carpet cleaner. For deep pile carpets, a vacuum or specialized rug rake would likely be more efficient.

Do I need to replace the cloth often?

The design includes a rewinding feature. As one section of the polyester yarn cloth becomes full of hair, you can rotate the butt joint pieces to wind the used portion back into the shell and expose fresh cloth. This extends the life of the consumable compared to single-use sheets.

Will the air mechanism leak over time?

The system relies on air channels and flexible rubber components. Durability depends on the quality of the molded parts and the elasticity of the rubber pads. Regular inspection of the sliding mechanism and ensuring the handle is not forced beyond its limits helps maintain integrity. Specific lifespan numbers are confirmed on prototypes during development.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent is currently active in China but has no US counterpart. However, you must conduct a freedom-to-operate search to ensure no other US patents cover similar adjustable cleaning tools. We recommend proceeding with caution and verifying legal clearance before mass production.
