Updated October 30, 2026Mechanical Flying Disc Launcher for Pet Dog Training
Throwing a flying disc far enough for a dog to chase requires arm strength and consistent technique, which can be difficult for children or adults with less physical power. This mechanical launcher removes that barrier. A placement base supports a telescopic column that sets the launch height. At the top, a pivoting frame holds the throwing mechanism. Inside the frame, a brake-type stepping motor turns two ball screws linked by synchronous wheels and a belt. The screws pull back a throwing disc against springs; when released, the springs drive the disc forward along guide rods to launch the flying disc. The entire assembly folds flat for carrying and unfolds in seconds at the park or yard.

The problem
Playing fetch with a flying disc is a common way to exercise dogs, but throwing a disc consistently and far enough requires practice and physical effort. Children, older owners, or adults with limited arm strength often struggle to launch a disc high or far enough for an active dog to chase. Hand-thrown discs also vary in angle and distance, making structured training sessions difficult to maintain. Existing manual launchers may require strong pulling force, while automated ones can be bulky, fixed in shape, and hard to transport to a park or field.
The solution
This device provides a mechanical structure that handles the loading and launching work.
- A placement base (1) rests on the ground, fitted with an anti-slip rubber mat underneath and a threaded cylinder (6). A positioning anchor rod (7) screws into the threaded cylinder to stabilize the unit on the ground.
- A support rod (3) rises from the base into a support cylinder (2). A limit sliding block (4) at the top of the rod slides inside the cylinder. A positioning screw (5) passes through a strip-shaped through hole in the cylinder wall to lock the block, setting the launch height.
- A connecting frame (9) joins the support cylinder to a flying disc launching frame (8). Positioning bolts (10) on both sides allow the frame to pivot, changing the launch angle.
- Inside the launching frame, a brake-type stepping motor (19) drives two ball screws (11). Synchronous wheels (17) on the screws are linked by a synchronous belt (18), so one motor turns both screws evenly.
- Lead screw nuts (12) on the screws move positioning frames (13) and a placement frame (14) holding a telescopic cylinder (15) with a limiting block (16).
- The flying disc throwing disc (20) carries positioning blocks (21) and a positioning slider (24). The slider rides on limit rods (22) inside a device groove in the launching frame, with springs (23) wrapped around the rods. One end of each limit rod has a protective rubber cushion (25). The slider passes through a strip-shaped hole in the frame.

Who it is for
- Pet product brands looking to add a structured, mechanical disc launcher to their outdoor dog toy lines.
- Amazon sellers and e-commerce retailers sourcing interactive pet toys that offer clear functional differences from standard hand-thrown discs.
- Dog training clubs and schools needing a consistent launch height and angle for obedience and retrieval drills without relying on a trainer’s arm strength.
- Wholesalers of outdoor and garden goods supplying pet owners who want durable, portable play equipment for parks and yards.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Placement base | Supports the unit on the ground; holds the threaded cylinder. |
| 2 | Support cylinder | Houses the limit sliding block for height adjustment. |
| 3 | Support rod | Connects the base to the cylinder; sets the vertical position. |
| 4 | Limit sliding block | Slides inside the cylinder and locks via the positioning screw. |
| 5 | Positioning screw | Passes through the cylinder’s strip hole to fix the height. |
| 7 | Positioning anchor rod | Threads into the base cylinder to secure the unit to the ground. |
| 8 | Flying disc launching frame | Holds the motor, screws, guide rods, and throwing disc. |
| 10 | Positioning bolts | Pivot the launching frame to set the angle. |
| 11 | Ball screws | Driven by the motor to draw back the throwing mechanism. |
| 17, 18 | Synchronous wheels and belt | Link the two ball screws so they turn together. |
| 19 | Brake-type stepping motor | Provides the power to pull the throwing disc back. |
| 20 | Flying disc throwing disc | Pushes the flying disc; guided by limit rods and springs. |
| 22, 23 | Limit rods and springs | Guide the throwing disc and store energy for the launch. |
| 25 | Protective rubber cushion | Fixed to the end of the limit rod to absorb impact. |
Operating steps
- Unfold and place the base on the ground. Screw in the positioning anchor rod to secure it.
- Loosen the positioning screw, slide the support rod up or down to the desired height, and tighten the screw through the strip-shaped hole.
- Adjust the launch angle by loosening the positioning bolts on the connecting frame, tilting the launching frame, and retightening.
- Load the flying disc onto the placement frame area.
- Activate the motor. The brake-type stepping motor turns the ball screws. Through the synchronous wheels and belt, both screws rotate evenly, pulling the throwing disc backward along the limit rods and compressing the springs.
- Release. The motor brake releases, and the compressed springs drive the throwing disc forward rapidly along the limit rods, striking the flying disc and launching it. The protective rubber cushions stop the slider at the end of the stroke.

Applications
Backyard fetch sessions
Dog owners use the launcher in fenced yards where space is limited but the dog needs active exercise. By adjusting the height and angle, the owner controls the flight path so the disc stays within the property boundaries. This solves the issue of inconsistent hand throws landing on neighboring roofs or fences.
Park training for children and dogs
Children who want to play fetch with larger dogs often lack the arm strength to throw a disc far enough to keep the dog interested. The mechanical launcher allows a child to operate the device safely while the dog gets a full-distance chase. It removes the physical limitation and keeps both engaged.
Professional retrieval training
Dog trainers conducting structured retrieval drills need the disc to travel the same distance and trajectory repeatedly. The adjustable height, fixed angle, and consistent spring-powered launch provide this uniformity. Trainers do not have to fatigue their arms maintaining identical throws across dozens of repetitions.
Outdoor recreation and camping
When traveling to campsites or open fields, owners carry the folded unit and set it up on uneven ground using the positioning anchor rod. The anti-slip rubber mat helps stabilize the base. It replaces the need to carry multiple heavy electronic launchers, offering a mechanical alternative that folds flat for transport.
Where it is less suitable
- Indoor apartment use - the spring-driven launch is designed for open outdoor spaces; indoor ceilings and walls restrict the flight path.
- Very small dogs or puppies - the device launches standard training flying discs, which may be too large or fast for very small breeds to catch safely.
- Unsupervised pet play - the unit requires a person to load the disc and operate the motor; it is not an automatic self-play feeder toy.
Frequently asked questions
How does the height adjustment work?
A support rod slides inside a support cylinder. A limit sliding block at the top of the rod moves up and down. A positioning screw passes through a strip-shaped hole in the cylinder wall and threads into the block to lock it at the chosen height.
What powers the launch?
A brake-type stepping motor turns two ball screws. The screws are linked by synchronous wheels and a belt so they rotate together. As they turn, they pull the throwing disc backward, compressing springs on the limit rods. When the motor brake releases, the springs push the throwing disc forward to strike and launch the flying disc.
Can the launch angle be changed?
Yes. The flying disc launching frame attaches to the support cylinder through a connecting frame. Positioning bolts on both sides allow the frame to pivot. Loosening the bolts lets you tilt the frame to the desired angle before tightening them again.
How is the unit secured on the ground?
The placement base has a fixed threaded cylinder. A positioning anchor rod screws into this cylinder to stake the base to the ground. An anti-slip rubber mat is also fixed to the bottom of the base to reduce sliding.
Is it easy to transport?
The patent describes the device as convenient for folding, telescopic adjustment, and carrying. Figure 4 shows the unit in a folded state, indicating the frame and support column collapse together for transport.
Does the spring mechanism wear out quickly?
The patent text does not provide cycle life or material fatigue data. Spring specifications, material choices, and expected lifespan are set in design and confirmed on prototypes during product development.
What size flying discs does it use?
The patent refers to “training flying discs” but does not specify exact diameters or weights. The dimensions of the placement frame and throwing disc are to be confirmed in design based on the target disc size.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and is in force there until at most 2044-07-08 (if annual fees are paid). It has no US counterpart, so the Chinese patent itself does not restrict making or selling the design in the United States. However, other US patents may cover similar pet launchers - see Patent & Production - so a freedom-to-operate check is recommended before volume production.
