Folding 3-Handle Wrench Multi-Tool

Most multi-tools are pliers with extras. This one is built around wrenches: three handles fold together on one pivot, giving an open-end wrench, a box-end wrench, a stepped wrench for four nut sizes and a magnetic hex socket that holds flat and Phillips bits - plus a covered saw blade, a file plate and a bottle opener, on a wrist strap.

🔧

Wrenches first

Open-end, box-end and a stepped wrench for four nut sizes - the tools most pocket multi-tools lack.

🧲

Magnetic bits

Flat and Phillips bits snap into magnetic hex holes in each handle, so they double as pins and do not get lost.

🪚

Covered saw blade

A small saw on one handle has a magnetic sliding cover that keeps it safe when not in use.

🍺

Everyday extras

A file plate for smoothing, a bottle opener and a wrist strap for carrying.

The problem

Small repairs at home, on a bike or on the job often stop for want of the right wrench. Household tool kits rarely have every size, and borrowing or buying one for a single job wastes time.

Pocket multi-tools are popular, but most are built around pliers and knives. Their wrench options are limited, so the one tool people carry often cannot turn the nut in front of them.

The solution

This design is a multi-tool built around wrenches:

  1. Three handles - right, middle and left - are joined by one pivot and fold flat together, or fan out to use each tool.
  2. The right handle carries an open-end wrench at one end, a saw blade at the other with a sliding magnetic cover, and a stepped wrench that fits four nut sizes.
  3. The middle handle carries a box-end (ring) wrench and a bottle opener.
  4. The left handle has a socket head with a magnetic hex hole for screwdriver bits and a file plate on its side.
  5. Flat and Phillips bits fit hex holes through each handle. The bits and holes are magnetic, so the bits stay put - and can also pin the handles in position.
  6. A lock with a wrist strap on the pivot makes it easy to carry and hard to drop.
Folding 3-Handle Wrench Multi-Tool - Patent Fig. 1 - folded multi-tool showing the three handles
Patent figure 1 - folded: right (1), middle (3) and left (2) handles on the pivot (4); saw (5) with cover (6); open-end (7) and box-end (8) wrenches; bottle opener (9); socket head (10).

Who it is for

  • Tool brands and EDC (everyday carry) sellers looking for a wrench-focused multi-tool that stands out from plier-based designs.
  • Bike, motorcycle and outdoor brands that want a branded repair tool.
  • Utility, facility and field technicians - the patent came from a power-supply company - and corporate gifting buyers.

How it works

The main parts

Folding 3-Handle Wrench Multi-Tool - Patent Fig. 2 - bottom view of the multi-tool
Patent figure 2 - bottom view: right handle (1) with stepped nut wrench (17), slot (16) for the saw cover, hex through-holes (15) holding bits (13, 14), open-end (7) and box-end (8) wrenches, bottle opener (9), lock (18) and wrist strap (19).
No.PartWhat it does
1Right handleCarries the saw blade, the open-end wrench and the stepped nut wrench.
2Left handleCarries the socket head and the file plate.
3Middle handleCarries the box-end wrench and the bottle opener.
4Pivot shaftJoins the three handles so they fold and fan out.
5Saw bladeSmall saw on the end of the right handle.
6Saw coverSlides in a slot (16) to cover the blade; magnetic to hold in place.
7Open-end wrenchOn the right handle.
8Box-end (ring) wrenchOn the middle handle.
9Bottle openerOn the other end of the middle handle.
10Socket headOn the left handle, with a magnetic hex hole (11) for bits.
12File plateAbrasive plate on the side of the socket head.
13 / 14Flat / Phillips bitsMagnetic screwdriver bits.
15Hex through-holesIn the middle of each handle; hold the bits.
17Stepped nut wrenchFits four nut sizes.
18 / 19Lock / wrist strapOn the pivot, for carrying.

Using it

  1. Fan out the handle you need around the pivot (4) - the others act as the grip.
  2. Wrench work. Use the open-end (7), box-end (8) or stepped wrench (17) on the nut.
  3. Screwdriver work. Take a bit (13 or 14) out of a handle’s hex hole and drop it into the socket head’s magnetic hex hole (11) on the left handle - it becomes a compact screwdriver.
  4. Lock the handles. Bits placed in the hex through-holes (15) of stacked handles act as pins, holding the handles together while you apply force.
  5. Saw. Slide the magnetic cover (6) out of its slot (16) to expose the saw (5); slide it back when done.
  6. Extras. Smooth an edge with the file plate (12), open a bottle with the opener (9), and hang the tool on your wrist with the strap (19).

Why magnets matter

Small bits are the first thing lost from any multi-tool. Here both the bits and the holes that hold them are magnetic, so bits click into place in the handles and in the socket head - and the saw cover stays closed by magnetism too.

Applications

Home repairs

Tightening furniture bolts, adjusting faucets, fixing appliances - jobs that need a wrench and a screwdriver more than pliers.

Bicycles, scooters and motorcycles

Roadside fixes - a loose bolt, a seat or handlebar adjustment - in one tool that fits a saddle bag or tool roll. Wrench sizes can be matched to common bike and motorcycle fasteners.

Camping, fishing and outdoors

Assembling gear, cutting small branches with the saw, opening bottles - with a wrist strap so it is not dropped.

Field and facility technicians

The patent was filed by a power-supply company for everyday field repairs: a pocket tool for quick adjustments between jobs.

Car glovebox kit

A compact emergency tool for battery terminals, loose clamps and small fixes.

Gifts and promotions

A practical branded gift for dealerships, tool shops, outdoor brands and corporate events.

Where it is less suitable

  • High-torque work - a pocket multi-tool is no substitute for full-size wrenches and sockets.
  • Cutting tasks - a dedicated knife or pliers-based multi-tool is better when cutting and gripping are the main jobs.

Frequently asked questions

What sizes do the wrenches fit?

That is chosen for your market - SAE, metric or a mix. The stepped wrench in the patent fits four nut sizes; the open-end and box-end wrenches add more.

Are the screwdriver bits standard?

The design uses hex bits held by magnets. A production version can use standard 1/4" hex bits so users can swap in their own.

How are the bits kept from getting lost?

Both the bits and the hex holes in the handles are magnetic, so the bits click into place.

Is the saw blade safe to carry?

It has a sliding cover held by magnets. For markets or retailers that do not allow blades, the saw can be left out.

Is it strong enough for real work?

Heat-treated steel handles and a solid pivot handle everyday repairs. For high-torque jobs, full-size tools are still the right choice.

Can it be used one-handed?

The handles fan out around the pivot like other folding multi-tools; the exact action depends on the final pivot and lock design.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China and lapsed in 2017, so it does not restrict anyone. Multi-tool designs are heavily patented in the US - see Patent & Production - so a freedom-to-operate check before volume production is strongly recommended.

Are you affiliated with the patent owner?

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
