Patent CN205812889U
Updated October 23, 2026Cam-Lock Telescopic Pole for Garden Power Tools
Pole pruners and trimmers usually lock their telescopic pole with twist knobs - which loosen, slip and let the pole creep shorter at the worst moment. This pole uses quick-release cam levers like a bike seat clamp: flip the lever and the slotted sleeve clamps tight. Stops keep the lever from over-rotating, and the tool head snaps into a tear-drop shaped socket with two spring buttons.
- China utility model - lapsed
- No filings outside China
- Garden power tools
- Tube, molded clamps, cam levers

Splat! What let you down?
🔒
Cam-lever lock
Flip the lever and an eccentric cam squeezes the slotted sleeve onto the pole - no knob to twist.
🛑
Over-rotation stops
A stop rib, a square boss and a side baffle keep the lever from turning too far or swinging out.
🔘
Spring-button head mount
Two spring-loaded buttons snap the tool head into square holes in the socket.
💧
Tear-drop socket
A non-round, tear-drop socket keeps the head from twisting on the pole.

The problem
Pole pruners, hedge trimmers and pole saws need to reach different heights, so their poles telescope. According to the patent, the common knob locks have two problems: the knobs cannot be positioned reliably and work loose, and the telescopic pole then slides in or out on its own.
The solution
The patent replaces knobs with cam-lever clamps:
- The tool has a handle (1), a support tube (2), a telescopic pole (3) and a detachable tool head (4).
- The telescopic pole slides in a first sleeve (5). The sleeve has an axial slot (13) at its end, with a lever seat (11) on one side and a nut seat (12) on the other.
- A cam lever (14) on the lever seat has an eccentric round end. A pin (15) and a bolt (16) with nut (17) pass through the lever and both seats. Turning the lever pulls the two sides of the slot together and clamps the pole.
- A corner (20) on the cam meets a stop rib (19) on the seat, so the lever cannot be over-turned and damaged. A square boss (18) and a side baffle (21) stop the lever swinging outward. Ribs (22) strengthen the seat.
- The same clamp is used on a second sleeve (6), which holds the tool head. The head also locks with two spring buttons (24, joined by a spring 25) that snap into square holes (23). A pin (26) and bump (27) locate it, and the tear-drop shaped joint stops it from rotating.

Who it is for
- Garden power-tool brands - pole pruners, pole hedge trimmers, pole saws and multi-tool systems.
- Battery-platform tool makers building interchangeable attachment systems.
- Telescopic-pole suppliers for window cleaning, painting and fruit picking.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1, 2 | Handle and support tube | The user end of the tool. |
| 3 | Telescopic pole | Slides in the first sleeve to set the length. |
| 4 | Tool head | Detachable cutting head. |
| 5, 6 | First and second sleeves | Hold the pole and the head. |
| 13 | Slot | Axial slot that lets the sleeve close on the pole. |
| 11, 12 | Lever seat and nut seat | On either side of the slot. |
| 14 | Cam lever | Eccentric round end with an opening (28). |
| 15, 16, 17 | Pin, bolt and nut | Pass through the lever and seats. |
| 19, 20 | Stop rib and cam corner | Stop the lever at its end position. |
| 18, 21 | Square boss and side baffle | Stop the lever swinging outward. |
| 22 | Ribs | Strengthen the lever seat. |
| 23, 24, 25 | Square holes, buttons, spring | Snap-lock for the tool head. |
| 26, 27 | Pin and bump | Locate the head. |
Adjusting the length

- Flip the cam lever (14) open - the slotted sleeve relaxes.
- Slide the pole (3) to the length you need.
- Close the lever - the cam pulls the slot closed and clamps the pole. The stop (19, 20) marks the closed position.
Changing the head
- Open the head clamp on the second sleeve (6).
- Press the two spring buttons (24) and pull the head out.
- Push the new head in - the tear-drop shape lines it up and the buttons snap into the square holes (23).
- Close the clamp.
Applications
Pole pruners and pole saws
Cutting branches at different heights with a pole that does not creep.
Pole hedge trimmers
Tall hedges, with the head swapped for different tasks.
Multi-tool attachment systems
One power unit with interchangeable heads - trimmer, pruner, edger.
Fruit picking and tree care
Telescopic poles for pickers and pruning hooks.
Other telescopic poles
Window-cleaning, painting and inspection poles.
Where it is less suitable
- Very long professional poles - the clamp size and tube wall must be engineered for the load at long reach.
- Non-round tube systems - the clamp is designed for the round telescopic tube.
Frequently asked questions
Why cam levers instead of knobs?
According to the patent, knob locks loosen and let the pole slide. A cam lever clamps the slotted sleeve with a flip and has a defined closed position.
Can the lever be over-tightened?
A corner on the cam meets a stop rib on the seat, so the lever stops at its end position. A boss and a baffle also stop it from swinging outward.
How is the tool head changed?
Open the head clamp, press the two spring buttons and pull the head out. A new head slides into the tear-drop socket and the buttons snap in.
Which heads can it carry?
The patent mentions pruners, trimmers and chain saws. The coupler is sized for your heads.
Is it for battery or corded tools?
Either - the pole and clamps work with corded, battery or manual heads.
Can you make just the pole and clamps?
Yes - the pole system alone for your existing tool heads is possible.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict anyone. Other pole and coupler designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
