Height-Adjustable Power Toolbox with Hydraulic Lift and Built-in Charging

Standard tool chests force mechanics to work at a fixed, often awkward height, leading to back strain and fatigue. This design solves that by integrating hydraulic lifters directly into the base. At each corner, a hydraulic cylinder pushes against a cushion block, raising the entire box body to a comfortable ergonomic level. When the job is done, the system lowers the chest for transport. Beyond height adjustment, it functions as a mobile power station: a built-in battery component charges via an internal controller, while integrated sockets in the tool area allow users to plug in cordless drills or lights. The interior is meticulously organized with dedicated instrument grooves and partitioned slots, ensuring that small parts stay sorted even when the unit is being lifted or moved.

The problem

Mechanics and technicians often spend hours bending over or reaching up because their tool storage does not match their working posture. Fixed-height toolboxes cause physical strain, while adding separate lifting equipment is cumbersome and takes up floor space. Additionally, traditional boxes lack integrated power solutions, forcing workers to run extension cords across the shop floor, which creates trip hazards and disorganized cable management. Small tools also tend to get lost in unpartitioned trays, slowing down retrieval time during critical repairs.

The solution

The patent describes a toolbox where the main body is elevated by hydraulic cylinders (3) located at the four corners of the lower end. Each cylinder connects to a cushion block (4), allowing the operator to adjust the height of the entire unit smoothly. The base rests on universal wheels (2) equipped with brake devices for stability during use.

Inside the bottom cavity, a battery component (5) stores energy, managed by an electromagnetic valve (6). A control box (7) on the outer wall houses the controller, which electrically connects to the battery, valve, and internal sockets (11). The upper section contains storage drawers (8) with a specialized tool storage area (9). This area features an instrument storage groove (91), a first storage trough (92) divided by a partition board (10), and a second storage trough (93). The box lid (12) is hinged and includes hooks (13) for extension tools, a collection bag (14), and an LED illumination lamp (15).

Applications

Automotive Engine Bays

Technicians can raise the toolbox to align with open hoods, keeping heavy wrenches and diagnostic tablets within arm’s reach without bending, reducing fatigue during long repair sessions.

Industrial Machine Inspection

In factories where maintenance crews move between machines of different heights, this unit adjusts to the specific access point, providing immediate power for sensors and lighting for dark crevices.

Field Electrical Work

Electricians benefit from the integrated sockets to charge multimeters or power temporary lights, while the organized drawers prevent losing small fuses or connectors amidst dust and debris.

Garage Workshops

For home mechanics, the unit serves as a central hub. The LED light aids in visibility under cars, and the push-pull bar allows easy movement around tight garage spaces.

Where it is less suitable

  • Heavy-Duty Construction Sites: The hydraulic and electronic components may be vulnerable to extreme impacts and mud common in rough construction environments compared to rugged steel carts.
  • Static Storage Only: If height adjustment is never needed, standard fixed tool chests are more cost-effective and have fewer mechanical parts to maintain.
  • High-Capacity Tooling: The partitioned drawers are designed for organization; very large tools like sledgehammers or long pry bars may not fit in the specified grooves.

Frequently asked questions

How does the height adjustment work?

The patent describes four hydraulic cylinders attached to the lower corners of the box body. When activated, these cylinders extend, pushing against cushion blocks to raise the entire toolbox. This allows the user to set the working height to match their stance, reducing back strain.

Is the battery included in the design?

Yes, Claim 1 specifies a battery component located in the inner cavity at the bottom of the box. It is electrically connected to a controller and internal sockets, allowing the unit to function as a mobile power station for charging tools or powering the LED light.

What kind of tools fit in the storage area?

The design includes specialized compartments: an instrument storage groove, a first storage trough divided by a partition board, and a second storage trough. The lid also features hooks for hanging extension tools and a collection bag. Specific dimensions are set in design based on typical mechanic tool sizes.

Can I add my own brand or features?

Yes. The control box, drawer layout, and external finish can be customized. You can specify the type of sockets (AC or USB), the color of the powder coat, and the branding on the handle or lid.

Does it meet US electrical safety standards?

The patent itself does not certify compliance. However, any production for the US market must adhere to UL standards for the electronic components and FCC regulations for the control unit. We assist in designing to meet these requirements.

Is the hydraulic system prone to leaking?

The patent uses standard hydraulic cylinder structures. Leak resistance depends on the quality of seals chosen during manufacturing. Industrial-grade seals are typically used to ensure longevity and cleanliness in workshop environments.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent CN206048134U is lapsed in China and has no US counterparts. Therefore, there are no direct patent restrictions from this document preventing sale in the US. However, you should conduct a freedom-to-operate search to ensure no other active US patents cover similar hydraulic lifting or smart-toolbox features.
