Air Fryer Basket with a Drop-On Handle That Locks and Releases by Button

The basket is the part of an air fryer that gets greasy, goes in the sink and takes up space in the cupboard - and its fixed handle makes all of that harder. Riveted handles also trap grease where they meet the basket. In this design the handle is a separate part. A metal connector welded to the basket's rim is bent up into a flat vertical tab. The handle has a slot that is open at the top, so it slides straight down over the tab and sits on a U-shaped stop. Two L-shaped hooks inside the handle, pushed by a spring, catch notches on the sides of the tab and lock it. A button on the underside of the handle tips the hooks back, and the handle lifts off upward.

The problem

Air fryer baskets are pulled out hot, emptied, and washed after almost every use. A handle that is fixed to the basket with rivets or screws makes the basket awkward in the sink and dishwasher, takes extra cupboard space and leaves joints where grease collects. A removable handle solves this only if it is quick to attach and cannot come loose while carrying a basket of hot food.

The solution

  1. The basket body (1) carries a connector (4): one end is fixed to the basket rim, the other is bent up into a vertical insert tab (3).
  2. The handle (2) has a connecting part with a vertical guide slot whose opening (5) is at the top. The tab slides down into the slot from above, and the slot’s cross-section matches the tab.
  3. In the connecting part, a fixing seat (6) with an open outer wall holds a U-shaped limiting block (7) at the bottom of the slot; the tab rests in a groove on its top. A cover (8) closes the seat.
  4. The tab’s sides are bent into lugs with notches (10). On both sides of the slot, L-shaped hooks (12) turn on pivots (15); their hook ends (13) snap into the notches.
  5. A spring (14) pushes the hooks into the locked position. A button (16), exposed under the fixing seat, pushes the hooks’ horizontal arms to release them.
  6. A silicone pad (18) and positioning plate (17) complete the assembly; the basket fits the fryer shell (20) and cavity (21).

Applications

Easy-clean air fryers

A removable handle is a clear selling point for buyers who wash the basket after every use.

Dishwasher-safe baskets

With the handle off, the basket lies flat in a dishwasher rack.

Compact storage

Baskets without handles nest together or fit in shallow drawers in small kitchens.

Replacement baskets

Accessory sellers can offer spare baskets that share one handle.

Multi-basket and oven-style fryers

One handle can serve several baskets or trays in a larger fryer.

Where it is less suitable

  • Very heavy baskets - large commercial baskets need a handle and lock sized for the load and tested accordingly.
  • Designs where the handle carries the release for the inner tray - those handles combine functions and need a different layout.
  • Lowest-cost fryers - springs, hooks and a button cost more than two rivets.

Frequently asked questions

How does the handle attach?

A flat metal tab rises from the basket rim. The handle has a slot that opens at the top, so you hold the handle above the tab and push it straight down until the hooks click into the tab’s notches.

Can it come loose while carrying hot food?

The tab is held by two spring-loaded hooks and rests on a U-shaped stop at the bottom of the slot. Pull and drop tests on samples confirm the lock for the basket’s weight.

How do I take the handle off?

Press the button under the handle; it swings the hooks out of the notches, and the handle lifts upward off the tab.

Is the basket dishwasher-safe?

With the handle removed, a coated or stainless basket can go in the dishwasher if the coating is rated for it. The handle can be washed by hand or rated for the top rack.

Can you make baskets for an existing fryer?

Yes, if you provide the fryer or its drawings. The basket must match the drawer, cavity and any safety interlocks.

Which coatings are available?

PTFE nonstick, ceramic sol-gel and uncoated stainless are common. PFAS-free options are available for states that restrict PFAS in cookware.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict the design in the US or in China. Air fryer baskets and handles may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.

Are you affiliated with the patent owner?

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
