Modular Wrench with Screw-On Heads

Instead of a bag of separate wrenches, one handle with a threaded hub at the top. Screw on the adjustable jaw head for nuts and bolts, a hex socket head for internal-hex fasteners, or both at once on opposite sides. A sleeve on the end of the handle takes a length of pipe when a bolt needs more leverage.

🔀

Three-way hub

Threaded sockets on the left, top and right of the handle hub accept screw-on tool heads.

🔧

Adjustable jaw head

A worm-gear adjustable wrench head screws on for nuts and bolts of different sizes.

⬡

Hex socket head

A screw-on hex head for internal-hex fasteners - change heads instead of changing tools.

🪜

Pipe sleeve for leverage

A sleeve at the end of the handle takes a steel pipe as an extension for stubborn bolts.

The problem

Maintenance work usually needs several wrenches: an adjustable wrench for nuts, hex keys for socket-head screws, and sometimes a length of pipe slipped over the handle for a seized bolt. The patent describes the result as a cluttered tool bag, more to carry and more time spent finding the right tool.

The solution

The patent turns the wrench into a handle plus screw-on heads:

  1. The handle (1) ends in a hub (3) with three internally threaded sockets - left (4), top (5) and right (8).
  2. Each tool head has a threaded post (6) that screws into any socket.
  3. The heads shown are a hex socket head (7) and an adjustable wrench head (9) whose moving jaw (13) is set by a worm gear (11) on a pin (10), against a fixed jaw (12).
  4. A magnet inside the hub and a reinforcing seat at the handle joint add stability.
  5. An adapter sleeve (2) at the bottom of the handle takes a steel pipe as an extension; the handle has an anti-slip rubber sleeve.

Who it is for

  • Tool brands and importers looking for a modular wrench or a compact multi-head kit.
  • Facility, appliance and equipment maintenance suppliers whose technicians carry a small kit.
  • Automotive, bike and marine accessory sellers who sell roadside and onboard tool kits.

How it works

The main parts

No.PartWhat it does
1HandleMain lever, with an anti-slip rubber sleeve.
2Adapter sleeveAt the handle end; a steel pipe slides in for extra leverage.
3HubHead of the handle; holds a magnet and has three threaded sockets.
4, 5, 8Threaded socketsLeft, top and right; internal threads accept the tool heads.
6Threaded postsOn each tool head; screw into a socket.
7Hex socket headFor internal-hex fasteners; a divider separates it from its post.
9Adjustable head bodyCarries the jaws and the worm gear.
10, 11Pin and worm gearTurning the worm moves the jaw.
12Fixed jawUpper jaw.
13Moving jawLower jaw, adjusted by the worm gear.

Using it

  1. Choose a head - adjustable jaw for nuts and bolts, hex head for socket screws.
  2. Screw it into a socket on the hub - left, top or right, whichever gives the best angle and clearance.
  3. For the adjustable head, turn the worm gear (11) until the jaws fit the nut.
  4. Turn the handle as with any wrench.
  5. For a stubborn bolt, slide a steel pipe into the sleeve (2) at the end of the handle to lengthen the lever.
  6. Unscrew the heads and store them with the handle.

Applications

Equipment and appliance maintenance

Technicians who meet both hex nuts and socket-head screws on the same machine.

Vehicle, bike and boat kits

One handle and a few heads take less room than a set of separate wrenches.

Plumbing and fittings

The adjustable head for fittings and nuts; the pipe sleeve for extra torque.

Furniture and fixture installation

Assembly crews working with mixed hardware.

Modular tool systems

A starting point for a brand’s own family of screw-on heads.

Where it is less suitable

  • High-torque industrial work - threaded head joints are a weak point compared with a one-piece wrench; heavy torque needs testing or a different joint.
  • Precision torque work - use a torque wrench.

Frequently asked questions

How do the heads attach?

Each head has a threaded post that screws into one of three threaded sockets on the hub at the top of the handle - left, top or right.

Which heads come with it?

The patent shows an adjustable worm-gear jaw head and an internal-hex head. Other heads - more hex sizes, open-end or box-end heads, a bit holder - can be added to a kit.

Is a screwed joint strong enough?

Thread size, steel and a locking feature are engineered for the torque target, and every prototype is torque-tested. For very high torque, a one-piece wrench is still the better tool.

What is the sleeve at the end of the handle for?

A steel pipe slides into it as an extension, to give more leverage on a seized bolt.

What does the magnet do?

The patent places a magnet inside the hub to steady the connecting parts.

Can we add our own head designs?

Yes - the hub works as a platform for a family of screw-on heads.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict anyone. Other modular wrench designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.

Are you affiliated with the patent owner?

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
