Patent CN206354662U
Updated October 26, 2026Portable Water-Taking and Purifying Cup with Built-In Pump and Quality Detector
Carrying separate pumps, filters and bottles takes up space when traveling or working outdoors. This design packs a DC booster pump, a filter element, a storage battery and a water quality detector into one cylindrical shell. A detachable dirt blocker sits at the water inlet end of the inlet pipe to catch large particles before they reach the main filter. The pump pushes water through the filter element, and the filtered water exits the casing. Inside, a detector circuit board reads electrodes placed at the filter inlet and outlet, lighting an indicator to show the user the current water condition. The lower shell holds the pump and battery side by side behind a partition, while the upper shell houses the filter element. A switch on the middle shell controls the pump, and a plug-in interface charges the battery.

The problem
When users need drinking water away from treated taps, carrying a hand-pump filter, spare bottles and testing strips means managing several loose items. Manual pumping tires the hands, and without a way to check the water after filtering, users cannot tell if the filter is still working or if the source water was too dirty for the element to handle. Packing all these parts separately also takes up room in a backpack or vehicle.
The solution
- One cylindrical shell divided into a lower housing, a middle housing and an upper housing keeps every component together.
- A detachable dirt blocker (funnel-shaped base, outer grid cover and filter screen) attaches to the water inlet end of the inlet pipe, acting as a preliminary filter so large debris does not load the main element.
- A DC booster pump in the lower housing draws water through the inlet pipe and pushes it into the filter element, removing the need for manual pumping.
- A storage battery, mounted next to the pump behind a partition with positioning holes, powers the pump.
- The filter element in the upper housing processes the water, and its outlet leads to a water outlet at the bottom of the upper shell.
- A real-time water quality detector with a detection circuit board, a water inlet detection electrode, a water outlet detection electrode and an indicator light sits inside the casing. The electrodes measure conditions before and after the filter, and the light shows the result.

Who it is for
- Outdoor gear brands looking for a self-contained water purification device to add to their camping and hiking catalogs, since the single-shell layout reduces the parts a user must carry.
- Emergency preparedness suppliers that stock relief kits; the battery-powered pump works without municipal pressure, and the detector gives users a visible signal about the filtered water.
- Promotional product distributors sourcing branded travel accessories for corporate clients, because the cylindrical middle shell provides a surface for markings and the unit combines several functions.
- Wholesalers serving agricultural or field workers who draw water from open sources and need a preliminary dirt blocker to keep the main filter from clogging quickly.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Cylindrical shell | Houses all components; made of lower, middle and upper sections. |
| 2 | Booster pump | DC pump that draws water in and pushes it through the filter. |
| 3 | Filter element | Removes impurities from the pumped water. |
| 4 | Storage battery | Powers the booster pump. |
| 5 | Water inlet pipe | Carries source water to the pump. |
| 6 | Dirt blocker | Funnel-shaped base, grid cover and screen for preliminary filtering at the inlet. |
| 7 | Water quality detector | Circuit board, inlet and outlet electrodes, and indicator light. |
| 8 | Switch | Controls the pump on the middle shell. |
| 9 | Plug-in interface | Charging port for the battery on the middle shell. |
| 10 | Partition | Holds the pump and battery in position inside the lower shell. |
Operating steps
- Submerge or place the dirt blocker into the water source. The funnel-shaped base, outer cover with grid and internal filter screen catch large particles.
- Press the switch on the middle shell. The storage battery sends power to the DC booster pump.
- The pump draws water through the water inlet pipe and pushes it into the water inlet of the filter element located in the upper shell.
- Water passes through the filter element and exits via the water outlet at the bottom of the upper shell.
- During flow, the detector operates. The water inlet detection electrode inserted at the filter inlet and the water outlet detection electrode inserted at the filter outlet send readings to the detection circuit board.
- The indicator light connected to the circuit board lights up to show the water quality condition.
- To recharge, connect a cable to the plug-in interface on the middle shell.
- To clean the preliminary stage, detach the dirt blocker from the water inlet pipe.

Applications
Backpacking and trail hiking
Hikers collect water from streams where carrying a manual pump adds fatigue over long distances. The built-in DC pump runs on the internal battery, and the dirt blocker keeps leaves and sediment out of the main filter so the element lasts longer between replacements.
Disaster relief staging areas
Relief workers often set up near rivers or flooded zones where tap infrastructure is down. The compact cylindrical shell fits into supply crates easily, and the indicator light lets teams see whether the water passing through the filter meets the expected condition before distributing it.
Agricultural field work
Farm crews working in remote fields draw from irrigation canals or ponds that contain suspended soil. The detachable dirt blocker handles this heavy particulate load first, reducing how often the crew needs to change the main filter element during a workday.
International travel and rural tourism
Travelers visiting regions with uncertain tap supplies can use the cup to process local water instead of buying bottled water constantly. The charging interface allows the battery to be topped up from standard USB adapters in hotels, keeping the pump ready for day trips.
Where it is less suitable
- High-volume group base camps - the unit is sized as a personal cup; groups needing liters per minute require larger pump systems.
- Saltwater desalination - the patent describes a filter element and dirt blocker, not a reverse-osmosis membrane rated for seawater.
- Mains-pressure plumbing integration - this is a standalone portable device, not an inline household filter housing.
Frequently asked questions
How does the water move through the cup?
A DC booster pump inside the lower shell draws water through the inlet pipe and pushes it into the filter element in the upper shell. The filtered water then exits through the water outlet at the bottom of the upper shell. The pump runs on the internal storage battery.
What is the dirt blocker for?
It attaches to the water inlet end of the inlet pipe and acts as a preliminary filter. It consists of a funnel-shaped base, an outer cover with a grid and a filter screen between them. It catches large particles before they reach the main filter element, and it can be detached for cleaning.
What kind of filter element does it use?
The patent document specifies a “filter element” but does not name the material or pore size. The exact filter media (carbon, hollow fiber, ceramic, etc.) is set in design based on the contaminants the buyer wants to address.
How does the water quality detector work?
It uses a detection circuit board connected to two electrodes: one inserted at the filter element’s water inlet and one at the water outlet. The circuit board reads the signals and drives a detection indicator light to show the water quality condition. Specific parameters measured are confirmed on prototypes.
How do I charge the battery?
A plug-in interface on the middle shell connects electrically to the storage battery. The exact connector type (e.g., USB) is set in design.
Can I turn the pump off easily?
Yes. A switch on the middle shell controls the opening and closing of the booster pump. It is wired between the battery and the pump.
Is the whole unit one piece?
The outer shape is a single cylinder, but the housing is built from three fixed sections: a lower shell, a middle shell and an upper shell. The lower shell also contains an inner shell and a partition to hold the pump and battery in place.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and is lapsed (terminated for non-payment of annual fees), so it does not restrict the design in the US or in China. Portable water purifiers and pump-driven filters may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
