Updated October 23, 2026Portable Folding Rocking Bassinet Frame
A rocking bassinet is a big piece of furniture - hard to take to the grandparents' house or on holiday. This frame folds down into a slim bundle. Telescopic cross tubes slide out of a central locking hub, the bed rails swing up on folding links, the legs come apart in two sections, and curved rockers with PE strips under the feet give the gentle rocking motion.
- China utility model - in force in China
- No filings outside China
- Baby furniture
- Steel tube frame, no electronics

The problem
Rocking bassinets and cradles are popular for newborns, but they are bulky. Parents who travel, visit family or move the baby between rooms need a frame that sets up quickly and folds small. According to the patent, the aim is a rocking bed that is portable and foldable.
The solution
The patent builds the frame from folding and telescopic tubes:
- A central hub (1) holds two sets of telescopic cross tubes (2), one on each side. A lock in the hub frame (11) holds the tubes; a tension spring and a webbing pull (12) on rivets (13, 14) work the lock.
- The outer ends of the cross tubes are hinged to two standing tubes (3) - the legs - which end in feet (8).
- A curved rocker bar (9) is pivoted between the feet of each side; PE strips under the rockers give a smooth rocking motion.
- At the top of each leg, a hollow joint (4) holds a bed-rail tube (5) that can turn.
- Upper folding links (6) and lower folding links (7) connect the bed rail to the leg and to each other, so the rails swing up and fold.
- Each leg is in two sections (31, 32) joined by a connector (34) with a spring clip (33).

Who it is for
- Baby-gear brands looking for a travel or second-room bassinet frame.
- Nursery furniture retailers and online baby stores.
- Rental and hospitality suppliers - hotel and vacation-rental baby equipment.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Central hub | Holds and locks the cross tubes; frame (11), webbing (12), rivets (13, 14), spring (15). |
| 2 | Telescopic cross tubes | Two sets, one on each side of the hub. |
| 3 | Standing tubes (legs) | Hinged to the cross tubes; two sections (31, 32). |
| 33, 34 | Spring clip and connector | Join the two leg sections. |
| 4 | Joints | Hollow joints at the top of the legs. |
| 5 | Bed-rail tubes | Carry the bed; turn in the joints. |
| 6, 7 | Upper and lower folding links | Fold the rails; the two lower links are pivoted together. |
| 8 | Feet | At the bottom of the legs. |
| 9 | Rocker bars | Curved, pivoted between the feet; PE strips underneath. |
Setting it up and folding

- Join the leg sections (31, 32) - the spring clip (33) snaps into place.
- Pull the cross tubes out of the hub until they lock.
- Spread the legs and let the folding links (6, 7) straighten so the bed rails (5) lie level.
- Fit the bassinet bed (mattress and fabric shell) on the rails.
- To fold, pull the webbing (12) to release the hub, push the cross tubes in, fold the rails and separate the legs.

Applications
Travel bassinet
A rocking bed that goes to the grandparents’ or on holiday.
Second-room bassinet
A frame that moves easily between bedroom and living room.
Hotels and vacation rentals
Baby equipment that stores flat when not in use.
Baby-gear rental
Equipment rental businesses that need compact storage and shipping.
Combined systems
A frame that carries a bassinet, a changing table or a play mat (each needs its own safety design).
Where it is less suitable
- Older babies - bassinets are for infants who cannot yet roll or push up; a crib or play yard is needed after that.
- Unsupervised use without the matched bed - the frame must only be used with its tested bassinet bed.
Frequently asked questions
How does it fold?
The cross tubes slide into a central locking hub (released with a webbing pull), the bed rails fold on hinged links, and each leg comes apart into two sections.
How does it rock?
Curved rocker bars are pivoted between the feet of each side, with PE strips underneath for a smooth motion. A lock to stop rocking can be added.
Does it come with the bed?
The patent covers the frame. For sale in the US, the frame and its bassinet bed and mattress are designed and tested together as one product.
What safety rules apply in the US?
Bassinets and cradles must meet the CPSC mandatory standard (16 CFR 1218), with third-party testing, a Children’s Product Certificate, tracking labels, warnings and a registration card. We plan this into the project.
Until what age can it be used?
Bassinets are for infants who cannot yet roll over or push up; the exact limits come from the standard and go on the warning label.
Can we choose colors and fabrics?
Yes - frame colors, breathable mesh, washable covers and a travel bag.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is still in force in China, where making or selling it would need the owner’s permission. Other bassinet designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
Are you affiliated with the patent owner?
No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
