Updated October 25, 2026Essential Oil Dispensing Hair Straightener with Auto-Feed Cartridge
Adding conditioning oil while flat-ironing usually means stopping to apply it by hand or buying separate heated brushes that lack precise temperature control. This design solves both issues by building the dispensing mechanism directly into the straightener. A cartridge sits alongside the upper heating plate and pivots open for filling. Inside, springs bias two aluminum strips relative to an outlet cover having through-holes. When you clamp the handles together, spike teeth on the lower plate push protrusions on the aluminum strips, sliding the strips just enough to let oil seep out evenly along the length of the hair passing through.

The problem
Applying conditioning treatments while flat-ironing is awkward. Users typically have to stop styling, rub oil into their palms, work it through sections of hair, and then pick up the hot iron again. This interrupts the workflow, leaves residue on the hands, and often results in uneven distribution—too much near the roots, too little at the ends. Separate heated brushes that claim to dispense products rarely offer the clamping pressure and consistent heat of a traditional flat iron. According to the patent, the objective is to provide a hair straightener that adds essential oil automatically, allowing the user to straighten and condition in a single pass without manual application.
The solution
- The straightener consists of an upper handle (1) and a lower handle (2) hinged together at one end, each carrying a heating board (3) on the facing side.
- A strip-shaped essential oil case (4) is mounted on the side of the upper heating board. It is rotatably connected to the upper handle so it can swing open for filling.
- Inside the case, a casing (41) holds the oil. An oil inlet (411) on the outer side accepts a removable feed cover (42) that seals tightly.
- At the bottom, an outlet (412) is covered by an essential oil case lid (45). Two aluminum strips (44) sit inside, sliding against this lid. Springs bias the strips.
- The lid has through-holes (451) aligned with protrusions on the aluminum strips.
- On the lower heating board, several spike teeth (5) are fixed in a row. When the handles close, these teeth press against the protrusions on the aluminum strips.
- Pressing the protrusions moves the aluminum strips against the springs, opening a gap that allows oil to seep out along the length of the strips and onto the hair trapped between the plates.

Who it is for
- Professional hair tool brands looking to add a treatment-dispensing feature to their premium flat iron lineup without redesigning the core heating architecture.
- Amazon private-label sellers in the beauty category who need a differentiated product that combines styling and conditioning to justify higher price points.
- Salon equipment distributors supplying stylists who frequently use oils during blowouts and want to eliminate messy manual application.
- Beauty subscription box curators seeking novel grooming tools that pair well with bottled hair serums included in monthly shipments.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Upper handle | Hinged to the lower handle; carries the upper heating board and the oil case pivot. |
| 2 | Lower handle | Carries the lower heating board where the spike teeth are mounted. |
| 3 | Heating boards | Flat surfaces on both handles that generate heat for straightening. |
| 4 | Essential oil case | Strip-shaped housing mounted beside the upper heating board. |
| 41 | Casing | Main body of the oil case; contains the oil inlet and outlet. |
| 411 | Oil inlet | Opening on the outer side for pouring in essential oil. |
| 42 | Feed cover | Removable cap that seals the oil inlet tightly. |
| 44 | Aluminum strips | Two sliding metal pieces inside the casing that meter the oil flow. |
| 45 | Case lid | Fixed over the outlet; has holes for the protrusions to pass through. |
| 5 | Spike teeth | Small pins fixed on the lower heating board that actuate the dispensing mechanism. |
Operating steps
- Fill the cartridge - Rotate the essential oil case outward on its pivot. Remove the feed cover from the oil inlet, pour in the desired conditioning oil, and replace the cover securely.
- Heat the iron - Turn on the straightener and wait for the heating boards to heat.
- Section the hair - Take a strand of hair and place it between the open handles, resting on the lower heating board.
- Clamp and glide - Squeeze the handles together. As they close, the spike teeth on the lower board contact the protrusions on the aluminum strips. This moves the aluminum strips against their springs, opening a narrow path for the oil to flow out along the strips and coat the hair section.
- Release - Open the handles. The springs return the aluminum strips, closing the oil path and stopping the flow until the next clamp.

Applications
Daily home styling with conditioning
Users who flat-iron every morning often skip pre-styling serums because applying them by hand slows down the routine. With this tool, the oil dispenses exactly when the plates clamp shut. The transparent window on top of the casing lets the user verify the oil level before plugging in the device, avoiding dry runs mid-style.
Salon smoothing treatments
Stylists performing smoothing treatments need even product distribution under heat. Manually painting oil onto thin sections is time-consuming and inconsistent. The linear array of spike teeth ensures the aluminum strips open uniformly across the entire width of the cartridge, delivering a consistent film of product along the hair shaft as the iron glides from root to tip.
Travel-sized grooming kits
Because the oil reservoir is integrated into the handle rather than requiring a separate pump bottle, the overall footprint stays compact. Travelers who rely on flat irons can carry a small vial of refill oil instead of bulky leave-in conditioner bottles, refilling the pivoting cartridge quickly in a hotel bathroom.
Textured and curly hair detangling
Thick, curly hair requires generous lubrication to prevent snagging during thermal straightening. The automatic feed releases oil precisely under clamping pressure, reducing friction between the heating board and the hair cuticle. This helps prevent breakage during aggressive passes on coarse textures.
Retail bundling with proprietary serums
Brands selling hair care lines can bundle this straightener with their own branded essential oils. The removable feed cover accepts standard liquid fills, making it straightforward to market a closed ecosystem where the hardware drives repeat purchases of the consumable oil cartridges or refill bottles.
Where it is less suitable
- Very short hair or buzz cuts - The strip-shaped cartridge and heating boards require enough hair length to pass through the clamped area; extremely short styles cannot engage the dispensing zone effectively.
- Water-based sprays instead of oils - The mechanism relies on the viscosity of essential oils to meter flow through the aluminum strip gaps; thin, water-like liquids may leak continuously even when the handles are open, bypassing the spring seal.
- Wet-to-dry styling - This design is intended for oil application on dry or damp-towel-dried hair prior to finishing, not as a replacement for dedicated wet-to-dry irons that vent steam.
Frequently asked questions
How does the oil actually get onto the hair?
When you squeeze the handles shut, small spike teeth fixed on the lower heating board press against protrusions on the bottom of the oil cartridge. This moves two internal aluminum strips against springs, briefly opening a gap that lets oil seep out along the length of the strips directly onto the hair clamped between the plates. Releasing the handles lets the springs return the strips, stopping the flow.
Can I use any type of hair oil in the cartridge?
The mechanism relies on springs and narrow gaps between aluminum strips to meter the flow. The patent does not specify oil viscosity. Very thin, water-like liquids might leak past the seals or strips when the iron is idle, while extremely thick pastes could clog the outlet holes. The patent mentions essential oil; compatibility with specific hair serums would be confirmed during design. Exact viscosity ranges would be set in design and confirmed on prototypes.
How do I refill the essential oil case?
The cartridge is rotatably connected to the upper handle, meaning it swings outward away from the hot plate. Once pivoted open, you remove a feed cover located on the outer side of the casing, pour in the oil, and snap the cover back on to seal it. A transparent window on the top of the casing lets you see the remaining oil level without opening anything.
Won’t the oil damage the heating elements or cause smoking?
The oil case is mounted on the side of the upper heating board. The patent describes sealing rings between the case lid and casing, and sealing strips between the aluminum strips and the lid, to contain the fluid. During manufacturing, thermal barriers and appropriate operating temperatures must be engineered to prevent the oil from reaching its smoke point before transferring to the hair.
Is the cartridge removable for deep cleaning?
The patent mentions the feed cover is removably connected for filling, and the case pivots on the handle. Whether the entire cartridge detaches for washing depends on the final production design. For hygiene, manufacturers typically design the reservoir to be flushable or easily wiped, but the specific detachment method would be finalized during the engineering phase.
How many passes does one full cartridge last?
The patent document does not specify reservoir volume or consumption rate per clamp. These figures depend entirely on the internal dimensions of the casing chosen during design, the spring tension controlling the strip gap, and the viscosity of the oil used. Capacity and dosage per stroke are parameters to be confirmed on prototypes.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and is in force there until at most 2027-06-27 (if annual fees are paid), so it does not restrict the design in the US. However, heated styling tools with fluid dispensing features may be covered by other US patents held by major beauty appliance brands - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
