What the claims cover, in plain language

Claim 1 - a folding baby crib with a first and second main support and a first and second top rail. A slider slides on the first support. A first crank-slider mechanism (second support + slider), a second crank-slider mechanism (first top rail + slider) and a link mechanism (second top rail + second support) are arranged so that swinging the second support toward the first slides the slider, which folds the first top rail, while the second support folds the second top rail at the same time.

Claims 2-3 - a lock holds the frame open; it sits on a second link mechanism between the two supports. Claims 4-5 - that link mechanism is two spreader links pivoted to each support and to each other; the lock is a sliding block in one link and a matching slot in the other. Claims 6-9 - further details described in the patent: the link and pivot arrangement at the main joint, telescoping or detachable supports and the slider as a sleeve.

This is a simplified reading for orientation only. The legal scope is defined by the exact claim wording in the official Chinese document.

What this means for US production

This patent was filed only in China. It is still in force in China, so making or selling this design in China would need the owner’s permission while it lasts (at most until 2027-03-13). It has no US or other foreign counterpart and does not restrict the design outside China.

Before production, keep in mind:

  • Other patents may exist. Play yard and travel crib folding mechanisms are heavily patented by large juvenile-products companies, and this patent has been cited 25 times by later filings. Have a freedom-to-operate (FTO) search done by a US patent attorney before volume production.
  • Product classification matters. Whether the US version is a bassinet, a play yard or a non-full-size crib depends on its size and design, and that decides which federal standard applies.

Customization and manufacturing

What can be customized

AreaOptions
SizeBassinet or play-yard size - to be confirmed in design
FrameAluminum or steel tube, telescoping or detachable legs, wheels on two legs
Bed setMesh side panels, mattress pad, fabric colors and prints
LockLock position and release style, two-step release
ExtrasCanopy, storage basket, rocking feet, travel bag
BrandingFabric labels, frame color, packaging

Things to plan for (US market)

  • CPSC mandatory standard - by classification: bassinets 16 CFR 1218 (ASTM F2194), play yards 16 CFR 1221 (ASTM F406) or non-full-size cribs 16 CFR 1220. Testing at a CPSC-accepted lab and a Children’s Product Certificate are required.
  • CPSIA - lead and phthalate limits on frame coatings and fabric, plus permanent tracking labels.
  • Product registration card - 16 CFR 1130 applies to durable infant products such as cribs and play yards.
  • Mattress fit and sleep safety - the mattress pad must be designed and tested with the crib; inclined sleep surfaces are banned.
  • Fabric flammability - 16 CFR 1610 for the textiles.

How a project runs

  1. Inquiry - product type, size, features and quantity.
  2. Design - frame geometry, links and lock adapted to the target US standard.
  3. Prototype - working cribs for fold, lock and stability tests.
  4. Pilot run - small batch with third-party CPSC testing.
  5. Production - volume production, packaging and shipping.

Quantities & timeline

The frame needs tube bending and drilling fixtures, injection molds for the joints, slider and lock, and sewing patterns for the bed set; third-party testing to the CPSC standard is part of the schedule. Send us your size, features, quantity and target price and we will reply with options.
