Patent CN207298471U
Updated October 25, 2026Telescoping Tripod Portable Work Light with Fold-In Light Panels
Most folding work lights still leave the head exposed or require you to screw sections together on site. This design collapses everything—pole, legs and dual light panels—into one tight bundle. The lower end of the telescoping support rod sits inside an extendable chamber in the base body. Three hinged elements (one rear brace, two side arms) pivot out from the same base body to form a triangle. At the top, two mounting portions rotate independently, each carrying an illuminating part that tilts to aim the beam. When packing up, the side arms fold face-to-face and the light panels tuck into the accommodation space between them, so the illuminating parts are tucked during transport.

The problem
Temporary job sites, roadside breakdowns and disaster-response staging areas all need bright, elevated light. Conventional tripod work lamps often ship with the head detached or the pole unscrewed into sections, forcing workers to assemble parts in the dark or rain. Bulky heads that stick out when folded also make the lamp awkward to stack in a service van or emergency kit. According to the patent, the goal is a portable work lamp that switches rapidly from a folded state to an unfolded working state by adjusting the low end of the support member relative to the base component, raising the light-emitting device to a preset height.
The solution
- A base body houses an extendable room (chamber). The low end of a supporting member (telescoping rod or folding bar) sits inside this chamber and can be extended upward.
- A support element, a first arm element and a second arm element are each hinged to the base body by axis connections. When swung outward they form a triangular structure.
- After expansion, a supporting and space opens between the three elements so that only their free ends make point contact with the ground.
- The base body includes a positioning groove and a leader.
- At the high end of the supporting member, two mounting portions rotate independently. Each mounting portion carries an illuminating part that can be tilted to aim the beam.
- For storage, the first and second arm elements fold face to face, creating an accommodation space with an opening. The illuminating parts tuck inside this space while the mounting portions stay at the opening.

Who it is for
- Emergency management agencies and fire departments that stock rapid-deployment lighting in response vehicles.
- Roadside assistance fleets and tow operators needing a tall, bright marker that unfolds from the truck bed without tools during nighttime breakdowns.
- Construction and maintenance contractors who move between short-duration tasks daily and want a single lamp that packs flat into a tool bag rather than occupying a full tripod case.
- Outdoor event and film crews setting up temporary perimeter lighting that must collapse quickly when weather changes or the location wraps.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Light-emitting device | Assembly of mounting portions and illuminating parts at the top. |
| 2 | Support device | Entire base-and-pole structure that holds the light. |
| 3 | Base component | Lower assembly including the base body and hinged legs. |
| 4 | Supporting member | Telescoping rod or folding bar whose low end adjusts in the base. |
| 5 | High end | Top of the supporting member where the light mounts. |
| 6 | Low end | Bottom of the supporting member seated in the extendable room. |
| 7 | Extendable room | Chamber inside the base body that receives the low end. |
| 8 | Support element | Rear leg hinged to the base body. |
| 9 | First arm element | One side leg hinged to the base body. |
| 10 | Second arm element | Opposite side leg hinged to the base body. |
| 11 | Base body | Central hub connecting the rod and all three legs. |
| 12 | Triangular structure | Shape formed when the three legs are spread. |
| 13 | Supporting and space | Gap between the legs once expanded. |
| 14 | Point contact | Free ends of the legs touching the ground surface. |
| 15 | Positioning groove | Recess in the base body for locating a support element. |
| 16 | Leader | Feature on the base body. |
| 17 | Support feet | Tips on the free ends of the arm elements. |
| 18 | Mounting portion | Pivoting bracket at the high end holding an illuminating part. |
| 19 | Illuminating part | Illuminating part attached to a mounting portion. |
| 20 | Accommodation space | Cavity formed between the folded arms to receive the illuminating parts. |
| 21 | Opening | Access to the accommodation space where mounting portions sit. |
Setup steps
- Unfold the legs - Swing the support element, first arm element and second arm element outward from the base body until they form the triangular structure. Only the support feet make point contact with the ground.
- Extend the rod - Pull the supporting member upward out of the extendable room in the base body. The patent describes a leader on the base body.
- Aim the lights - Rotate each mounting portion at the high end and tilt the illuminating parts to cover the required area.
- Collapse for transport - Retract the rod back into the extendable room, fold the side arms face to face so the illuminating parts are housed in the accommodation space.

Applications
Roadside vehicle recovery
Tow operators pull the lamp from the truck cab, swing the three legs open and extend the rod, placing bright light over a disabled vehicle without fumbling for screws or clips in traffic.
Disaster relief staging
Emergency teams unload multiple units from a supply pallet. Because the panels fold inside the legs, the lamps stack tightly, and each one deploys to illuminate triage tents or generator hookup points.
Nighttime construction tasks
Contractors performing short plumbing or electrical repairs in unfinished buildings set the lamp on uneven concrete. The point-contact feet and triangular stance adapt to debris-strewn floors.
Outdoor film and photography sets
Crews use the dual pivoting illuminating parts to cross-light a small scene. When rain approaches, the entire lamp folds flat and goes into a gear bag instead of requiring a hard case.
Utility meter reading and inspection
Field technicians working after dark in substations or alleys carry the collapsed lamp in a backpack, extend it to eye level and angle both panels downward to read dials or inspect conduit labels.
Where it is less suitable
- Permanent warehouse aisles - fixed high-bay fixtures deliver more uniform coverage without floor-space trip hazards.
- Extreme wind exposure on open towers - the point-contact feet and lightweight telescoping rod are designed for portability; guy lines or weighted bases would be needed.
- Hazardous-location zones requiring explosion-proof certification - the patent describes mechanical structure only; intrinsic safety or ATEX/UL Class I Div 1 ratings depend entirely on the chosen driver and enclosure materials.
Frequently asked questions
How fast does the lamp deploy?
The patent describes a design where swinging the three hinged legs outward and pulling the telescoping rod up from the base chamber brings the lamp to working height. Exact deployment time depends on the detent friction and pole weight finalized during engineering, but the structure eliminates threaded pole sections that slow down conventional tripods.
Is the tripod stable when fully extended?
Stability comes from the triangular structure formed by the support element and two arm elements. The patent specifies that only the free ends of these elements make point contact with the ground. The maximum safe extension height and payload capacity of the light panels will be determined by the wall thickness of the legs and the locking mechanism chosen during product development.
Can it run on batteries?
The patent covers only the mechanical folding structure, not the electrical system. Battery-powered versions are feasible by integrating a lithium-ion pack into the base body or behind one of the illuminating parts, provided the added weight does not compromise the center of gravity when the rod is fully extended.
How many light panels does it have?
The claims describe embodiments with at least one illuminating part, and a dependent claim with two mounting portions each carrying an illuminating part. Both panels pivot independently at the high end of the support rod, allowing cross-lighting or focused beams in different directions.
What happens to the panels when folded?
The first and second arm elements fold face to face, creating an accommodation space with an opening. The illuminating parts tuck inside this cavity while the mounting portions remain at the opening.
Does the rod twist when extended?
The patent describes a leader on the base body. Anti-rotation profiles, such as a D-shaped or splined inner tube, would be specified during detailed design to prevent the light head from spinning under wind load.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict the design in the US or in China. Portable work lights may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
