Baby Stroller Frame with Direction-Adjustable Seat and One-Hand Fold

Standard reversible-seat strollers force parents to lift the seat off the frame before collapsing it, then reattach it later. This frame removes that step. The seat stays mounted while the support base slides down the front rack, pulling the rear legs inward through a coupled link until the whole frame folds flat. Once folded, it stands on its own wheels and the seat edge, taking up less storage space. The seat also rotates between parent-facing and forward-facing positions via a control handle that releases a locking pin, so the child's direction changes without detaching anything.

🔄

Reversible seat

The seat pivots on the support base between parent-facing and forward-facing positions, controlled by a handle.

⬇️

Slide-to-fold

Moving the seat support base down the front rack pulls the rear rack inward through a coupled frame.

🧍

Self-standing fold

When folded, the frame stands upright on the first wheels and one end of the seat.

🔒

Auto-locking joints

A second locking mechanism locks the frame automatically when unfolded, released by a fold control mechanism.

The problem

Parents who use reversible-seat strollers face a two-step routine every time they collapse the frame: first unbuckle and lift the seat away, then fold the chassis, and reverse the process to use it again. Carrying a detached seat while managing a toddler leaves little room for error. Storage is another issue. A folded stroller that cannot stand on its own falls over in closets, car trunks and apartment hallways, taking up more floor area than necessary. Changing the seat direction usually means removing the seat entirely and flipping it, which interrupts a walk and risks dropping parts.

The solution

This stroller frame solves those steps by linking the seat movement directly to the folding action.

  1. A first supporting rack (1) carries at least one first wheel (11) at its lower end. A second supporting rack (2) pivots at its upper end to the upper end of the first rack and carries at least one second wheel (21) at its lower end.
  2. A seat support base (3) slides back and forth along the first supporting rack (1). When the frame is open, this base sits near the upper end of the first rack.
  3. A coupled frame (4) is rotatably connected between the seat support base (3) and the second supporting rack (2).
  4. To fold, the seat support base (3) moves toward the lower end of the first rack (1). The coupled frame (4) pulls the second rack (2) so it pivots toward the first rack (1), closing the frame without removing the seat.
  5. A seat (5) pivots on the lower end of the seat support base (3). A control handle (51) on the seat works with a first locking mechanism (52) to hold the seat facing forward or toward the parent.
  6. A second locking mechanism (12) locks the frame automatically when unfolded. A fold control mechanism (14) interlocks with it to release the lock for folding.
  7. In the folded state, the frame stands upright on the first wheels (11) and one end of the seat (5).

Who it is for

  • Baby product brands looking for a stroller chassis that folds with the seat attached, reducing the steps their customers take at the car trunk.
  • Amazon private-label sellers in the juvenile category who need a frame design that stands upright when folded, a feature frequently requested in reviews.
  • Wholesalers supplying daycares and nurseries where staff fold multiple strollers daily and need a quick, repeatable motion without loose parts.
  • OEM stroller factories seeking a licensed or prior-art reference for slide-linked folding geometry to build into new tube frames.

No.PartWhat it does
1First supporting rackFront leg assembly; carries the first wheels (11) at its lower end.
2Second supporting rackRear leg assembly; pivots at the top of the first rack; carries second wheels (21).
3Seat support baseSlides up and down the first rack; holds the seat pivot.
4Coupled frameLinkage between the seat support base and the second rack; drives the fold.
5SeatPivots on the seat support base to change direction.
11First wheelAt least one wheel on the lower end of the first rack.
21Second wheelAt least one wheel on the lower end of the second rack.
51Control handleOperates the first locking mechanism to rotate the seat.
12Second locking mechanismLocks the frame in the unfolded state automatically.
14Fold control mechanismReleases the second locking mechanism to start folding.

Operating steps

  1. Unfold - Pull the control handle (51) upward. The seat support base (3) moves along the first rack (1) toward the upper end. The coupled frame (4) pushes the second rack (2) outward until the second locking mechanism (12) engages automatically.
  2. Change seat direction - Actuate the control handle (51) to release the first locking mechanism (52). Pivot the seat (5) on the seat support base (3) to face the parent or face forward. Release the handle to lock again.
  3. Fold - Activate the fold control mechanism (14) to unlock the second locking mechanism (12). Push the seat support base (3) down the first rack (1). The coupled frame (4) draws the second rack (2) inward until the frame is closed.
  4. Stand - Leave the folded frame resting on the first wheels (11) and one end of the seat (5).

Applications

Urban sidewalk commuting

Parents walking city sidewalks need to collapse the stroller quickly before boarding a bus or entering a shop. The slide-to-fold action lets them close the frame with the seat still attached, keeping one hand free for the child.

Apartment and small-home storage

Homes with narrow entryways lack room for a stroller laid flat on the floor. Because the folded frame stands upright on its wheels and the seat edge, it fits into a closet corner without falling over.

Daycare and nursery fleets

Staff at childcare centers fold and unfold dozens of strollers each morning and afternoon. A single-motion fold that requires no seat removal speeds up the routine and reduces misplaced parts.

Travel and car-trunk loading

Fitting a stroller into a compact car trunk often means wrestling with separate seat and chassis pieces. This frame folds as one unit, making it easier to slide into tight cargo spaces during trips.

Retail display floors

Baby-product stores benefit from strollers that stand neatly on their own when not in use. The self-standing folded posture keeps aisles clear and presents a tidy profile to shoppers.

Where it is less suitable

  • Jogging strollers - Running frames require fixed, rigid geometries and larger pneumatic tires; a sliding seat base is not intended for high-speed impact loads.
  • Double or tandem strollers - The patent describes a single-seat frame; adapting the linkage for two seats would require a different structural layout.
  • Ultra-light travel cabs - Minimalist umbrella strollers prioritize weight over standing features and typically omit heavy locking mechanisms.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fold this stroller without taking the seat off?

Yes. The patent describes moving the seat support base down the first supporting rack, which pulls the second supporting rack inward through the coupled frame. The seat remains attached throughout the folding motion.

How does the seat change direction?

The seat pivots on the seat support base. A control handle operates a first locking mechanism: when released, the seat rotates between a parent-facing position and a forward-facing position. Releasing the handle re-engages the lock.

Does the folded stroller stand on its own?

According to the patent, when the frame is in the folded state, it can stand upright supported by the first wheels and one end of the seat.

What prevents the frame from folding accidentally while a child is inside?

A second locking mechanism locks the frame automatically when it reaches the unfolded vertical use state. A separate fold control mechanism must be actuated to release this lock before the frame can close.

Are there two front wheels?

The patent mentions an embodiment with two first wheels and two parallel first supporting racks, allowing the folded frame to stand on both wheels.

Is this stroller compliant with US safety standards?

The patent document only describes the mechanical structure. Any stroller sold in the US must pass CPSC 16 CFR 1227 and ASTM F833 testing at a certified laboratory, covering latching, stability and structural integrity. Compliance depends on the final materials and construction.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China and has been withdrawn (the owner abandoned the right effective 2023-06-02), so it does not restrict the design in the US or in China. However, stroller folding mechanisms are covered by many other active US and international patents held by various companies - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.

Are you affiliated with the patent owner?

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
