Self-Wringing Flat Mop with Fold-Away Wringer

A self-wringing flat mop whose wringer folds away. Slide the handle down and two wringer plates swing open and squeeze both sides of the mop pad; slide it back up and the plates fold flat along the pole, so the mop stays slim for mopping under furniture and for storage.

  • China utility model - lapsed
  • No filings outside China
  • Cleaning
  • Plastic + metal pole, no electronics
Self-Wringing Flat Mop with Fold-Away Wringer - patent drawing

🧽

Hands-free wringing

Slide the handle down and the mop pad is squeezed between two plates - no bucket wringer, no wet hands.

📐

Wringer folds away

When you mop, the wringer plates fold flat along the pole instead of sticking out.

🔁

Double-sided pad

Cleaning pads can go on both faces of the flat mop head, so you can flip it and keep going.

🔒

Positive latches

A thumb catch on the handle locks it in the mopping or wringing position.

The problem

Self-wringing flat mops are popular because you never touch the dirty pad. But on most of them the wringer is a fixed block at the bottom of the handle. It makes the mop bulky, catches on chair legs and table bases, and takes extra room in a cleaning closet.

The solution

This mop keeps the wringer folded away until you need it:

  1. The flat mop head (2) is joined to the pole (1) by a two-way joint (6). For wringing it swings up so it lines up with the pole.
  2. A sliding handle sleeve (7) on the pole drives a push rod (8). Two wringer plates (9) hang from the push rod, linked to the handle by connecting arms (10).
  3. Slide the handle down: the arms push the two plates open until they are level. Push further and the plates slide down over the standing mop head, squeezing both faces of the pad.
  4. Slide the handle back up: the plates fold flat along the pole again.

Patent figure 3 - the handle (7) pushed down: connecting arms (10) have opened the two wringer plates (9) above the standing mop head (2).

Who it is for

  • Cleaning-product brands and Amazon sellers looking for a slimmer self-wringing flat mop.
  • Housewares wholesalers and retailers wanting a differentiated mop at a mainstream price.
  • Janitorial suppliers for offices, hotels and small commercial spaces.

How it works

The main parts

No.PartWhat it does
1Mop poleMain pole with the grip at the top.
2Mop headFlat board that carries the cleaning pads.
4Cleaning padsCan be fitted on both faces of the mop head.
5SlotSlot in the mop head; the pole sits in it when the head stands up for wringing.
6JointTwo-way hinge between pole and head: tilts for mopping, swings up for wringing.
7Handle sleeveSlides along the pole and drives the wringer.
8Push rodTube around the pole that carries the wringer plates.
9Wringer platesTwo plates, one on each side of the pole.
10Connecting armsLink the handle sleeve to the plates and open or fold them.
11, 12Catch and guide slotHold the push rod in place while mopping and guide it while wringing.
13Thumb catchSpring catch on the handle sleeve; locks into an upper or lower notch (14, 15) on the push rod.

Mopping

Self-Wringing Flat Mop with Fold-Away Wringer - Patent drawing - the mop ready for mopping
Patent figure 1 - mopping: the mop head (2) is flat, the wringer plates (9) are folded along the pole.

The handle sleeve (7) is latched at the upper notch, and the wringer plates (9) lie flat against the pole. The mop head tilts on its joint (6) so it can follow the floor.

Wringing, step by step

Self-Wringing Flat Mop with Fold-Away Wringer - Patent drawing - mop head standing up, ready to wring
Patent figure 2 - ready to wring: the mop head (2) has swung up in line with the pole.
  1. Stand the mop head up - it swings on the joint (6) until it lines up with the pole.
  2. Release the thumb catch (13) and slide the handle sleeve down to the lower notch. The connecting arms (10) push the two wringer plates (9) open to a level position (figure 3).
  3. Push the handle down further. The push rod, arms and plates move down together; the mop head passes between the plates and both faces of the pad are squeezed.
  4. Pull the handle back up and release the catch - the plates fold flat along the pole again.

Patent figure 4 - wringing: the open plates (9) slide down over the standing mop head (2).

A second version

The patent also describes a version where the wringer plates are hinged directly to the handle sleeve, opened by a small drive block on the pole and pulled closed by a spring, and hidden inside the handle sleeve when folded. Either version can be developed with you.

Applications

Homes and apartments

Hard floors, kitchens and bathrooms. The slim head gets under sofas and beds, and the mop hangs in a narrow closet.

Kitchens and dining areas with many chair legs

Because nothing sticks out from the bottom of the pole while mopping, it moves around furniture more easily than a mop with a fixed wringer block.

Offices and small shops

Quick daily mopping without a wringer bucket.

Hotels, vacation rentals and short-stay hosts

Turnover cleaning with washable pads and no hand contact with dirty water.

Retail and Amazon private label

A recognizable “fold-away wringer” feature to stand out in a crowded mop category, sold with replacement pads.

Where it is less suitable

  • Large commercial floors - a janitorial cart with a bucket wringer is faster for big areas.
  • Very rough or grouted surfaces such as garage floors or patios - a string mop or deck brush works better.

Frequently asked questions

How dry does it wring the pad?

Dryness depends on the gap between the wringer plates and the pad material. The gap is tuned during design and checked with your chosen pads.

Do I need a bucket?

You still need water to rinse the pad - any bucket or sink works. You do not need a bucket with a built-in wringer.

Can both sides of the head be used?

Yes. The patent allows pads on both faces of the flat head, so you can flip it when one side is dirty.

Are the pads washable?

Microfiber and chenille pads are machine-washable; disposable pads are also possible.

Will the wringer arms break?

The arms, catches and joint are cycle-tested in development; reinforced plastics or metal pins can be used at wear points.

Can it be made in different widths?

Yes. Head width, plate width and pole length are set for your market.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China and lapsed in 2025, so it does not restrict anyone. Other mop designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
