The problem
Cats and dogs drink more when water moves - a big reason pet fountains are one of the best-selling pet products. But most fountains still have two weak points:
- One-sided drinking spot. Many fountains put the spout or drinking area on one edge. Only one pet can drink at a time, and cats that dislike touching anything with their whiskers avoid tight spots.
- Stale or splashed water. Open bowls collect dust and hair; simple spouts splash water onto the floor.
The solution
This design moves the fountain to the center:
- A small pump in the base lifts water up a central tube to a flower-shaped spray head.
- Several nozzles spray gentle streams outward onto a round raised dish around the tube.
- When the dish is full, water drains through holes in its floor, is spread out by an umbrella-shaped gasket and flows through a multi-layer filter back into the basin.
- An optional UV lamp module sterilizes water as it is pumped.
Because the drinking dish is round and open on every side, several pets can drink together, and the water they drink is always fresh from the spray head.

The water path, step by step
- Pump up. The pump (50) draws water from the basin and pushes it up the first hollow tube in the center of the dish.
- Spray out. The water passes into the spray head (40) and leaves through several nozzles as gentle streams, landing in the drinking dish (30).
- Pool and drink. The dish fills up to the height of the raised collar - this is where pets drink, from any side.
- Drain and spread. Extra water drains through the holes in the dish floor and lands on the umbrella gasket (70), which spreads it over the filter.
- Filter. Water seeps through the filter (80) and drops back into the basin.
- Sterilize (optional). Before the next trip up, the water passes the UV lamp module (60).
The cycle runs continuously while the fountain is plugged in.
The filter
The ring-shaped filter is a stack of four layers:

The optional UV module
The patent describes two versions: an external module that clips onto the pump inlet, and a built-in module placed between the pump outlet and the center tube, with its own small pre-filter and UV lamp.
Status light
An LED next to the pump shines through the small holes in the middle shell. The patent suggests using it to show power, low water level and filter replacement reminders.

Multi-pet homes
Households with two or more cats, or a cat and a small dog, often see pets queue at - or fight over - a one-sided fountain. A round drinking dish that is open on every side lets several pets drink side by side.
Cats that drink too little
Many cats are reluctant drinkers, and owners often turn to fountains because cats tend to be attracted to moving water. This design keeps a fresh stream flowing onto the dish, and the wide open dish avoids the narrow spots that whisker-sensitive cats dislike.
Small and medium dogs
The raised center dish suits small and medium breeds. A larger basin and taller shell can be scaled for bigger dogs (see Customization).
Pet sitters, boarding and grooming shops
Places that care for several animals a day need water stations that are easy to clean and keep water fresh between refills. The fountain breaks down into a few simple parts - basin, shell, dish, spray head, filter - for washing.
A product line, not just one product
The spray head’s decorative top is a separate part. One base can be sold with different tops - a flower, a paw, a cartoon cat - or in different colors, giving sellers several listings from one set of tooling.
Where it is less suitable
- Very large dogs that drink large volumes quickly - a bowl-style fountain with a bigger open reservoir may suit them better.
- Outdoor use - the pump needs mains or USB power and should be kept indoors.
Frequently asked questions
How is it different from a normal pet fountain?
Most fountains have a spout or drinking spot on one side. Here the spray head is in the middle and the drinking dish runs all the way around it, so several pets can drink at once and none has to squeeze into a corner.
How do you clean it?
It comes apart into a few pieces: basin, middle shell, drinking dish, spray head, filter and pump. All the plastic parts can be washed by hand; the pump is rinsed separately. The filter cartridge is replaced on a schedule.
Is it noisy?
The water falls only a short distance from the spray head onto the dish, and the drain water is slowed by the umbrella gasket before it reaches the basin. With a quality brushless DC pump, the fountain can be very quiet - we test noise during prototyping.
How often is the filter replaced?
That depends on the number of pets and the water quality - typically every few weeks for this kind of carbon filter. Replacement filters are a good repeat-sale item for sellers.
Does it need the UV lamp?
No. UV is optional. The basic version uses only the filter; the UV module is an upgrade for a premium model.
What power does it use?
The patent describes a small DC pump on a switching power supply. For the US market we would normally use a 5 V USB pump with a certified adapter.
Can it be made bigger for dogs?
Yes. The basin, shell and dish can be scaled up; a larger pump and filter are matched to the new size.
