Patent CN208286505U
Updated October 24, 2026Massage Insole with Spring-Back Silicone Nubs and a Removable Top Layer
Most massage insoles are a single molded sheet of fixed bumps: comfortable for the first hour, then the same points press on the same spots all day, and the whole insole is thrown away when the bumps wear. This design builds the insole in layers. A tray-shaped base with a raised rim holds an elastic layer and a soft cushion carrying hemispherical silicone nubs; a removable top sheet with holes sits on a step in the rim, and the nubs stand slightly proud of it. Each step pushes the nubs down into the elastic layer and they rise again as the foot lifts. The cushion splits into forefoot, midfoot and heel pieces that interlock.

Splat! What let you down?
🔘
Nubs that give way
Silicone nubs sit on an elastic layer, so they press under each step and sink back instead of staying rigid.
🧩
Three-piece cushion
Forefoot, midfoot and heel sections interlock and can be removed separately.
🔁
Removable top sheet
The perforated top layer lifts out by a pull tab for washing or replacement.

Holes mapped to the foot
The top-sheet holes are placed at points on the sole that the patent identifies as acupoints.

The problem
Massage insoles with molded bumps are a popular add-on for people who stand or walk all day, but most are a single sheet: the bumps are rigid, they press the same spots for hours, and when the surface wears or gets dirty the whole insole is replaced. The patent describes conventional massage insoles as pressing on the sole continuously, which can become uncomfortable over long wear.
The solution
The patent separates the insole into layers that each do one job:
- An insole body (1) has a lower layer (11) whose edge rises into a raised rim (2), forming a shallow tray.
- A step (3) runs around the top of the rim on its inner side, with reinforcing ribs (4) underneath; the upper layer (12) rests on this step and can be lifted out by a pull tab (10).
- The upper layer has through-holes (5) at points the patent maps to acupoints of the sole.
- Between the layers lies a soft massage cushion (6) with hemispherical silicone nubs (7), one under each hole. The nubs are taller than the upper layer is thick, so they stand slightly above it.
- An elastic layer (9) sits between the cushion and the lower layer.
- The cushion is made of three detachable pieces - forefoot (61), midfoot (62) and heel (63) - joined by matching projections and recesses (81/82, 84/85).
According to the patent, when the wearer steps down, the nubs press the sole; at the same time they compress the elastic layer and move back through the holes, which reduces how long they stay in hard contact. When the foot lifts, the elastic layer pushes them up again, while the upper layer supports the foot.

Who it is for
- Insole and foot-comfort brands wanting a massage insole whose parts can be replaced instead of the whole product.
- Workwear and safety-footwear suppliers selling comfort insoles to people on their feet all shift - retail, warehouse, healthcare and hospitality staff.
- Wellness and reflexology retailers who already sell foot rollers and massage mats and want a wearable product in the same line.
- Shoe brands looking for a removable massage footbed for walking or casual shoes.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 11 | Lower layer | Base of the insole; forms a tray with the rim. |
| 2, 3, 4 | Rim, step and ribs | Enclose the inner layers and carry the top sheet. |
| 12 | Upper layer | Removable perforated top sheet that supports the foot. |
| 5 | Through-holes | Let the nubs reach the sole at mapped points. |
| 6 (61-63) | Massage cushion | Soft carrier for the nubs in three interlocking sections. |
| 7 | Silicone nubs | Hemispherical bumps that press the sole. |
| 9 | Elastic layer | Lets the nubs sink under load and pushes them back up. |
| 10 | Pull tab | For lifting the top sheet out. |
Using it
- Trim and insert the insole like an ordinary footbed.
- Walk normally. Each step presses the nubs against the sole and pushes them down into the elastic layer.
- On lifting the foot, the elastic layer returns the nubs to their raised position.
- To clean, pull the top sheet out by its tab; the cushion sections can be lifted out and replaced one at a time.

Applications
All-day standing jobs
Cashiers, nurses, warehouse pickers and line workers often buy comfort insoles themselves. A nub insole that yields under load suits long shifts better than rigid bumps.
Walking and travel shoes
Tourists and walkers who already like massage sandals can have a similar feel inside closed shoes, with a top sheet that can be washed after a trip.
Reflexology and wellness retail
Shops selling foot-reflexology charts, rollers and mats can add a wearable item; the hole map can follow the shop’s own reflexology chart.
Replacement-part business model
Because the top sheet and cushion sections are separate, a brand can sell refill top sheets or nub cushions of different firmness.
Gift and promotional sets
Massage insoles are a common gift item; the layered design gives room for colored nubs and printed top sheets.
Where it is less suitable
- Running and high-impact sports - loose layers and nubs are not designed for sprinting or jumping; a performance insole is a different product.
- People with diabetic or sensitive feet - textured insoles can cause pressure points; such users should follow their clinician’s advice, and the product should not be marketed to them.
Frequently asked questions
What makes this different from a molded bump insole?
According to the patent, the silicone nubs sit on a soft cushion over an elastic layer, so they press the sole when you step and then sink back through the holes, rising again as the foot lifts. In a molded insole the bumps are part of one rigid sheet.
Can the nub firmness be chosen?
Yes. Nub hardness, height above the top sheet and the density of the elastic layer are set in design, so a soft and a firm version can share the same molds for most parts.
Can the insole be washed?
The top sheet lifts out with its pull tab, and the cushion comes out in three pieces, so the parts can be hand-washed and dried separately. Washing instructions are confirmed on samples.
Which sizes can be made?
Full men’s and women’s size runs, or trim-to-fit insoles covering several sizes. The lower layer needs one mold per size group.
Do the holes follow a reflexology chart?
The patent places the holes at points it maps to acupoints of the sole. The layout can follow your own chart; we recommend describing it as a massage pattern rather than promising health effects.
Can I sell refill parts?
Yes. Because top sheet and cushion sections are separate, replacement top sheets or firmer and softer nub cushions can be sold as refills.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict the design in the US or in China. Massage insoles may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
