Patent CN208624426U
Updated October 23, 2026Reversible Fishing Seat-Box Lid with Backrest
Anglers sit on their tackle box for hours, so the lid is really a seat. This lid has two faces that can be swapped: it lifts off removable hinge pins, turns over and goes back on. One face can carry a seat cushion, a fold-flat backrest and a small lidded compartment; the face you are not using sits inside the box, out of the dirt and rain.
- China utility model - lapsed
- No filings outside China

- Molded plastic, no electronics

The problem
On the bank or the pier, a fishing seat box does two jobs: it carries the tackle and it is the angler’s seat for hours. A plain flat lid is hard to sit on for long, and pads or backrests fixed on top get wet and dirty, take up room in the car and make the box hard to stack. The patent also aims for a lid that can be used on its own, away from the box.
The solution
The patent gives the lid two opposite faces that can be swapped:
- The lid (2) is made of a first face (21) and a second face (22) back to back.
- It sits on the box (1) on removable hinge pins (3). Pull the pins, turn the lid over and refit it - now the other face is on top, and the unused face is inside the box.
- A side wall (23) on the lid has a groove (231) that fits a matching ledge on the box rim, so the lid seats firmly.
- A face can carry a seat cushion (4) partly set into a recess (5), a backrest (6) on a U-shaped frame (61) that folds flat into a second recess (7), and a storage compartment (8) with a hinged cover (81) held by a spring-loaded latch.
- Because the lid comes off, it can also be used on its own, for example as a separate seat.

Who it is for
- Fishing tackle and seat-box brands - a feature that adds comfort without making the box bigger.
- Outdoor and camping brands selling storage boxes that double as seats.
- Private-label and online sellers in the fishing and outdoor category.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Box | Hollow body with a base and four sides; has a ledge on its upper rim. |
| 2 | Lid | Two-faced lid. |
| 21, 22 | First and second faces | Either can face up; the other sits inside the box. |
| 23, 231 | Side wall and groove | The groove fits the ledge on the box rim. |
| 3 | Removable hinge pins | Let the lid be lifted off, flipped and refitted. |
| 4 | Seat cushion | On the top face; one edge set into a recess (5). |
| 6 | Backrest | Back pad (621) on a U-shaped frame (61) with side lugs (622). |
| 7 | Backrest recess | The folded backrest lies in it, keeping the lid thin. |
| 8 | Storage compartment | Recess in the lid face. |
| 81 | Compartment cover | Hinged on one edge. |
| 82, 823 | Latch and button | Spring-loaded latch that holds the cover shut. |
Choosing the face

- Pull out the hinge pins (3) and lift the lid off the box.
- Turn it over so the face you want - seat and backrest, or a plain face - is on top.
- Seat it on the box: the groove (231) in the lid’s side wall fits the ledge on the rim.
- Refit the hinge pins.
Using the seat

- Lift the backrest (6) on its U-shaped frame.
- Sit on the cushion (4).
- Press the button (823) to open the compartment cover (81) for hooks, floats or keys.
- Fold the backrest flat into its recess (7) for carrying.
Applications
Seat boxes for coarse and match fishing
Long sessions on the bank where comfort matters.
Ice fishing and pier fishing
A tackle box that is also a seat with a backrest.
Camping and outdoor storage
Storage boxes that double as camp seats.
Boating and kayak fishing
A compact box with a lid that can be used as a separate seat pad.
Sports and event seating
Boxes for equipment that also serve as sideline seats.
Where it is less suitable
- Heavy adults on small boxes - the box and lid must be rated for seating loads; small tackle boxes are not seats.
- Very low-cost tackle boxes - the reversible lid with cushion and backrest adds parts and cost.
Frequently asked questions
How does the lid flip?
It sits on removable hinge pins. Pull the pins, lift the lid off, turn it over and refit it. Either face can be on top.
What can be on each face?
The patent shows a seat cushion, a fold-up backrest and a small compartment with a latched cover. Other features - rod-holder sockets or a flat work surface - can go on the other face.
Why is the unused face inside the box?
So it stays clean and dry while you use the other one - useful when one face carries the cushion and backrest.
How much weight can it hold?
The patent gives no figures. The box, lid and hinge pins are designed and tested for a stated seating load, which goes on the label.
Can the lid be used on its own?
Yes - the patent notes that the lid can be taken off and used separately, for example as a seat pad.
Does the backrest make the box bulky?
No. It folds flat into a recess in the lid face.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict anyone. Other seat-box designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
