Width-Adjustable Slide Rail for Pull-Out Baskets

Pull-out kitchen baskets usually come in one width per cabinet size, which means many SKUs and many unhappy customers whose cabinet is a little wider. This slide rail sits on a slotted adjusting plate that slides sideways on its mounting bracket. A tongue-and-groove keeps it straight, and matching scale marks let the installer set both rails to the same width - so one basket fits a range of cabinets.

↔️

Adjustable width

Slotted plates let each rail slide sideways on its bracket, so the basket fits cabinets of different widths.

📏

Scale marks

Alignment lines on the plate and graduations on the bracket set front and back to the same width.

🧩

Tongue and groove

A raised tongue on the plate rides in a groove on the bracket, keeping the rail level while you adjust.

📦

Fewer SKUs

One basket size covers several cabinet sizes - less stock to hold, fewer returns.

The problem

Pull-out baskets for kitchen and wardrobe cabinets are mounted on a pair of slide rails fixed to the cabinet sides. Because cabinet widths vary, each basket is usually made for one cabinet width. The patent describes the result: a basket of one size can only be installed in one size of cabinet, so sellers keep many variants in stock.

The solution

The patent puts an adjustable plate between the rail and the cabinet:

  1. The slide rail (1) is a normal three-part rail: outer (11), middle (12) and inner rail (13).
  2. Two adjusting plates (3) are fixed under the inner rail. Each has a long slot (31).
  3. The rail is mounted on an angle bracket (2) fixed inside the cabinet. The bracket has screw holes (21) under the slots, and screws (4) clamp plate and bracket together - anywhere along the slot.
  4. A tongue (32) on the plate runs in a groove (22) on the bracket, so the plate slides straight sideways without tilting.
  5. An alignment line (33) on the plate and graduations (23) on the bracket let the installer set the front and back plates to exactly the same width.

Patent figure 2 - exploded view: rail (11, 12, 13), adjusting plate (3) with slot (31), tongue (32) and alignment line (33), bracket (2) with screw holes (21), groove (22) and graduations (23), screw (4).

Who it is for

  • Kitchen and closet hardware brands selling pull-out baskets, organizers and slides.
  • Cabinet makers and kitchen installers who fit baskets into existing cabinets.
  • Retail and online sellers of retrofit pull-out organizers, who face many cabinet sizes.

Installing a basket

  1. Fix the angle brackets (2) inside the cabinet.
  2. Set the rails on the brackets with the tongue (32) in the groove (22).
  3. Slide each rail sideways until it matches the basket width; read the alignment line (33) against the graduations (23) at the front and back.
  4. Tighten the screws (4) through the slots (31).
  5. Hang the basket on the rails.

Applications

Kitchen pull-out baskets

Base-cabinet and pantry baskets for different cabinet widths.

Wardrobe and closet organizers

Pull-out trouser racks, shoe baskets and drawers.

Retrofit organizers

Products sold online for existing cabinets of unknown width.

Bathroom vanity organizers

Pull-out baskets under sinks.

Office and storage furniture

Pull-out file and storage baskets.

Where it is less suitable

  • Very heavy drawers - for heavy pots or tools, the screw clamp and plate must be rated and tested for the load.
  • Concealed undermount drawers - this suits side-mounted basket rails.

Frequently asked questions

How does the width adjustment work?

Each rail sits on slotted plates. Loosen the screws, slide the rail sideways on its bracket, read the scale, and tighten again.

How much width can it cover?

The patent gives no figures. The adjustment range is set by the slot length, which we design for the cabinet widths you want to cover.

How do I make sure both ends are equal?

An alignment line on each plate reads against graduations on the bracket, so the front and back are set to the same value.

What load can it carry?

That depends on the rail type and steel gauge chosen; each design is load- and cycle-tested.

Can you supply the baskets too?

Yes - rails alone or complete pull-out basket kits.

Is it for new or existing cabinets?

Both - the adjustment is especially useful for retrofit products sold for cabinets of different widths.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is still in force in China, where making or selling it would need the owner’s permission. Other slide designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.

Are you affiliated with the patent owner?

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
