What the claims cover, in plain language
Claim 1 - a support-leg structure with a fixed seat mounted under an object and several inclined legs around it, some mounted at different heights. A rotatable torsion ring with a vertical axis sits in the seat and has a torsion groove facing each leg. Each leg has a connecting post reaching into its groove, with a dial tooth between them, and limiting structures between post and tooth and between tooth and groove.
Claim 2 - a vertical column on top of the seat, with the supported object hinged to the column top. Claim 3 - four legs evenly around the seat, two adjacent legs mounted higher than the other two. Claims 4-5 - two layouts of the limit slots on the four torsion grooves (same direction on opposite grooves, or opposite directions on adjacent grooves). Claims 6-9 - further features described in the patent for the leg ends, the posts and the teeth.
This is a simplified reading for orientation only. The legal scope is defined by the exact claim wording in the official Chinese document.
What this means for US production
This patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it no longer restricts anyone in China either. It has no US or other foreign counterpart.
Two points to settle early:
- Other patents may exist. Self-stabilizing table bases are an active US patent area - companies selling wobble-free café and flip-top table bases hold patents on their leveling mechanisms. A freedom-to-operate (FTO) review of the final hub design by a US patent attorney should come before tooling.
- Leveling range and stiffness. How far the base can compensate, and how firm it feels when someone leans on the table, depend on tooth and slot geometry; both must be proven on prototypes.
Customization and manufacturing
What can be customized
| Area | Options |
|---|---|
| Legs | Steel tube, cast aluminum or flat bar; leg spread for round or square tops |
| Hub | Cast aluminum or welded steel seat; nylon or steel torsion ring and teeth |
| Height | Dining, bar or coffee-table height columns |
| Top mounting | Flip-top hinge with lock, or fixed top plate |
| Feet | Nylon, rubber or felt glides; outdoor-grade caps |
| Finish | Powder coat colors, outdoor corrosion protection, branding on the hub cap |
Things to plan for (US market)
- ANSI/BIFMA X5.5 (desk/table products) - contract buyers expect stability and strength testing for tables, including load and tip tests with the hinged top locked.
- Flip-top lock and pinch points - the hinge needs a positive lock and finger clearance; test the lock under a leaning load.
- Outdoor versions - salt-spray resistance of the coating and UV stability of plastic parts for patio use.
- California Prop 65 - check coatings and plastic or rubber glides.
- ADA knee clearance - for restaurant and public tables, the base and column must leave the clear knee space buyers specify.
How a project runs
- Inquiry - table size, height, top type and quantity.
- Design - hub, ring and tooth geometry set for the load and leveling range.
- Prototype - working bases tested on stepped and sloped surfaces and for nesting.
- Pilot run - small batch for BIFMA-type tests, finishing and packaging.
- Production - volume production, packaging and shipping.
Quantities & timeline
The hub needs a casting or welding fixture and machining for the ring bore, the ring and teeth need injection or die-casting molds, and the legs need tube bending and welding jigs plus a powder-coat line. Most development time goes into the ring and tooth fit. Send us your table size, height, top type, quantity and target price and we will reply with options.
