What the claims cover, in plain language
Claim 1 - a car pillow with a pillow frame made of a middle bracket and side brackets that are movably connected, so the side brackets can move relative to the middle bracket to adjust parts of the pillow.
Claim 2 - a mounting bracket for the car seat, made of an adjuster and a telescopic piece carrying the frame, with a positioning structure that switches between locked and adjustable. Claims 3-8 - the positioning structure: a movable adjusting piece with a spring (or similar), a push button outside the adjuster, and locking by friction surfaces, ratchet surfaces, bumps or holes and pins. Claim 9 - a connector on the frame whose position on the telescopic piece can be adjusted (mounting height). Claim 10 - mounting clamps on both sides of the adjuster, at least one movable to suit different headrest posts.
This is a simplified reading for orientation only. The legal scope is defined by the exact claim wording in the official Chinese document.
What this means for US production
This patent was filed only in China. It is still in force in China, so making or selling this design in China would need the owner’s permission while it lasts (at most until 2029-12-26). It has no US or other foreign counterpart and does not restrict the design outside China.
Before production, keep in mind:
- Other patents may exist. Car headrest pillows and adjustable winged headrests are covered by US patents and design patents - a later US application by another company on a fixing device for in-car neck pillows cites this patent. Have a freedom-to-operate (FTO) search done by a US patent attorney before volume production.
- Production location. Because the Chinese patent is in force, plan where the product is made with your patent counsel.
Customization and manufacturing
What can be customized
| Area | Options |
|---|---|
| Pillow shape | Wing size and curvature - to be confirmed in design |
| Padding | Memory foam, high-resilience foam; removable washable cover |
| Cover fabric | Leather-look PU, mesh, velour; colors to match car interiors |
| Bracket | Post spacing range, reach travel, finish |
| Wings | Ratchet (pivot) or sliding wings |
| Branding | Logo, retail box, gift packaging |
Things to plan for (US market)
- Vehicle safety - aftermarket headrest accessories must not interfere with the vehicle’s head restraint function (FMVSS 202a applies to the vehicle) or side airbags; label the product accordingly and test fit in common vehicles.
- Stuffed articles laws - several US states require registration and law labels for products with foam filling.
- Flammability - automotive interior materials are commonly tested to FMVSS 302 burn rates; check foam and fabric.
- Materials - California Proposition 65 for foams, PU and plastics.
How a project runs
- Inquiry - target vehicles, materials, adjustments and quantity.
- Design - frame, ratchets, bracket and foam shapes.
- Prototype - samples tested in several car models.
- Pilot run - small batch with materials testing.
- Production - volume production, packaging and shipping.
Quantities & timeline
The frame, ratchets and bracket need injection molds, and the foam needs molds or cutting tools. Send us your target vehicles, materials, quantity and target price and we will reply with options.
