Patent CN212545964U
Updated October 23, 2026Wrist-Mounted Umbrella Stabilizer
Holding an umbrella steady is hard for anyone with a weak grip or a tremor. This holder straps to the wrist and hand, so the forearm carries the umbrella instead of the fingers. The umbrella clips into a holder joined to the strap by an anti-shake link. Open, it stands upright in front of the forearm; closed, it slides around a curved track and hangs below the arm, so the hands stay free.
- China utility model - lapsed
- No filings outside China
- Assistive daily-living aid
- Straps, molded parts, spring link

Splat! What let you down?
✋
Arm carries the umbrella
A wrist strap and palm loop hold the device, so the forearm - not the grip - supports the umbrella.
〰️
Anti-shake link
According to the patent, a damping link between strap and umbrella reduces shaking passed to the handle.
🔁
Slides when closed
Release the catch and the closed umbrella slides around a curved track to hang below the arm.
🔒
Locks in both positions
A push-button catch holds it upright when open; a strap buckle holds it below the arm when closed.

The problem
An umbrella is held at arm’s length, in the fingers, often in wind. For people with weak grip strength or a tremor, it shakes, tilts and can slip out of the hand. According to the patent, the device was designed for people with Parkinson’s disease, whose resting tremor and muscle weakness in the arms make it hard to hold an umbrella on their own.
The solution
The patent moves the load from the fingers to the forearm:
- A stabilizer body is worn on the arm: an adjustable wrist strap (7), a palm loop (8) and a curved track (5) that runs around the forearm.
- The umbrella is fixed to an umbrella holder: a mounting plate (1) with a grip clip (2) for the umbrella handle (02) and shaft straps (3) around the shaft (03).
- Between the two sits an anti-shake device (4). The patent describes it as reducing the vibration passed from the user’s arm to the umbrella handle, and refers to the anti-tremor structures used in special spoons for Parkinson’s patients.
- The anti-shake device slides along the track. When the umbrella is open, a push-button catch (6) locks it on the inner side of the forearm, so the umbrella stands upright.
- When the umbrella is closed, press the button: the umbrella slides around the track and hangs below the arm, where a strap buckle (10) holds it. The hands are free and the umbrella cannot be dropped.

Who it is for
- Assistive-living and home-health brands with ranges of daily-living aids.
- Medical supply distributors and pharmacies selling mobility and independence products.
- Senior-living and rehabilitation suppliers - also useful as a general hands-free umbrella holder for anyone with weak grip.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 7 | Wrist strap | Elastic, adjustable length, closes with buckles (9). |
| 8 | Palm loop | Endless strap around the base of the thumb; steadies the device. |
| 5 | Track | Curved rail around the forearm. |
| 4 | Anti-shake device | Slides on the track and carries the umbrella holder; the patent describes it as damping shaking. |
| 6 | First lock | Metal catch with a push button; lets the device slide up one way and locks it on the inner forearm. |
| 10 | Second lock | Strap buckle that holds the device on the back of the arm when the umbrella is closed. |
| 1 | Mounting plate | Base of the umbrella holder. |
| 2 | Grip clip | The umbrella handle (02) pushes in and is held. |
| 3 | Shaft straps | Two straps that tie the umbrella shaft (03); their slots line up with the clip. |
Opening the umbrella

- Put on the wrist strap (7) and palm loop (8) and adjust the length.
- Clip the umbrella handle into the grip clip (2) and tie the shaft straps (3).
- Slide the anti-shake device up the track to the inner side of the forearm; the catch (6) clicks and holds it.
- Open the umbrella - it stands upright in front of the bent forearm.
Closing and carrying

- Close the umbrella.
- Press the button on the catch (6). The umbrella’s weight lets it slide around the track (5) to below the arm.
- Fasten the strap buckle (10). The umbrella hangs from the arm - the hands are free.
Applications
Daily-living aids for people with tremor
According to the patent, the main users are people with Parkinson’s disease who want to use an umbrella independently.
Seniors and people with weak grip
A hands-light way to hold an umbrella for anyone who finds gripping tiring.
Walking-aid users
Someone using a cane in one hand can carry an umbrella without gripping it.
Rehabilitation and care facilities
Part of a kit of independence aids for residents and patients.
Hands-free outdoor use
Parents with strollers, dog walkers and delivery workers who need a free hand.
Where it is less suitable
- Strong wind - a forearm-mounted umbrella still catches the wind; a release that lets go under heavy load should be considered.
- Large golf umbrellas - size and weight must suit the strap and holder.
Frequently asked questions
How is it worn?
An adjustable wrist strap and a loop around the base of the thumb hold it on the forearm. The umbrella clips into a holder, so the arm carries it instead of the fingers.
Does it stop shaking?
According to the patent, the anti-shake device between the strap and the umbrella reduces the vibration passed from the arm to the umbrella handle. The patent gives no test results; any performance claim needs testing by the brand that sells it.
Who was it designed for?
The patent describes it as designed for people with Parkinson’s disease who have a resting tremor and weak arm muscles. It can also be positioned as a general hands-free umbrella holder.
What happens when the umbrella is closed?
Press the button on the catch and the umbrella slides around the track to hang below the arm, where a strap buckle holds it. The hands are free.
Is it a medical device in the US?
If it is marketed for a medical condition, most likely yes. The brand owner confirms the FDA classification and registration; the factory registers with the FDA too. Marketed as a general umbrella holder, it is a consumer product.
Can it be supplied with an umbrella?
Yes - as a holder alone or as a set with a light, matched umbrella.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China and has lapsed, so it does not restrict anyone. Other umbrella-holder designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
Are you affiliated with the patent owner?
No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
