Patent CN212630655U
Updated October 23, 2026Self-Switching Double-Squeegee Window Cleaner
A squeegee only works properly in one direction: push it the other way and the blade chatters or leaves streaks. This cleaning head has a blade on each side and a pad in the middle. A small friction slider on the base feels which way you are moving and, through a rack and gears, tilts the blade frame so the leading blade lifts off and the trailing blade wipes the surface dry. Change direction, and the blades switch by themselves.
- China utility model - in force in China
- No filings outside China
- Cleaning tools
- Mechanical - gears, no motor needed

Splat! What let you down?
🔄
Works both ways
Push or pull - the trailing blade always does the wiping, so there is no 'wrong' direction.
⚙️
Switches by itself
A friction slider drives a rack and gears that tilt the blade frame - no buttons, no motor.
🧽
Pad plus blades
The pad in the middle scrubs; the blade behind it removes the water and dirt it leaves.

Built for window cleaners
Described for magnetic window cleaners, and also for tables, walls, floors and boards.

The problem
Window cleaners - handheld or the magnetic two-sided type - usually combine a cleaning pad with a squeegee strip. The patent describes two weak points: a fixed squeegee only wipes cleanly in one direction, and the pad leaves water and dirt that are not fully removed, especially toward the corners.
The solution
The patent puts two squeegee blades (2-1, 2-2) on opposite sides of the housing (1), with the cleaning pad between them, and makes the blades switch automatically:
- The blades sit on a blade frame (3) that is hinged in the housing on a support shaft (4) and can tilt by about 5-25°.
- A sliding block (5) carries a friction pad that sticks out through a hole (1015) in the base and touches the surface being cleaned.
- When the head moves, friction holds the slider back, so it moves backward relative to the housing.
- The slider’s rack (51) turns a second gear (8) on a shaft (9); a first gear (7) on the same shaft drives the rack on a sliding plate (6).
- The sliding plate presses on the blade frame and tilts it: the blade at the front lifts away from the surface, and the blade at the back presses down and wipes.
- Move the other way and the whole sequence reverses.

Who it is for
- Window-cleaning tool brands, including magnetic window cleaner makers, looking for a streak-reducing upgrade.
- Household cleaning brands with squeegees for glass, shower screens, tables and whiteboards.
- Janitorial suppliers whose staff clean large glass areas.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Housing | Body of the cleaning head; its base carries the cleaning pad. |
| 2-1, 2-2 | Squeegee blades | One on each side; the trailing one wipes. |
| 3 | Blade frame | Two mounting beams joined by cross beams; tilts 5-25°. |
| 4 | Support shaft | Hinge between the frame and the housing. |
| 5 | Sliding block | Carries a removable friction pad that touches the surface. |
| 51 | Rack on the slider | Drives the second gear. |
| 7, 8 | First and second gears | On one shaft; pass the slider’s movement to the sliding plate. |
| 9 | Shaft | Carries both gears. |
| 6 | Sliding plate | Moves sideways and presses the blade frame to tilt it. |
| 91 | Knob | On the top cover; in the magnetic version it winds a safety cord. |
The claims also allow a motor to turn the gear shaft instead of the friction slider; the basic version is purely mechanical.
Cleaning a window

- Wet the glass (or the pad) as usual.
- Move the head across the glass in direction A to B - the pad scrubs, the blade at the back wipes.
- Reverse direction - the slider is held back by friction, the gears turn, and the frame tilts the other way. The other blade now trails and wipes.
- Continue in overlapping strokes in both directions without lifting or turning the tool.
For magnetic window cleaners, the patent describes the head on the outside of the glass, guided by a magnetic inner part, with a safety cord wound on the top knob (91).
Applications
Magnetic window cleaners
Cleaning both sides of windows in high-rise apartments and offices, where turning the outer unit is impossible.
Handheld window and shower squeegees
A two-way squeegee for glass doors, mirrors and shower screens.
Tables, counters and whiteboards
The patent also names desktops, walls, floors and blackboards.
Car and boat glass
Windshields and windows washed by hand.
Commercial cleaning
Storefront glass and glass partitions cleaned in fast back-and-forth strokes.
Where it is less suitable
- Very dirty or textured surfaces - heavy grime needs pre-scrubbing; textured glass does not wipe dry with any squeegee.
- The cheapest squeegees - the gear mechanism adds parts and cost; it fits mid- and premium-priced tools.
Frequently asked questions
How do the blades switch?
A small friction pad on a sliding block touches the glass. When you move the head, friction holds the block back; its rack turns two gears that slide a plate, and the plate tilts the blade frame. The front blade lifts and the rear blade wipes. Reverse direction and it tilts the other way.
Does it need batteries?
No. The basic version is purely mechanical. The patent also allows a motor version, which we would only use for a powered product.
Is it a magnetic window cleaner?
The patent describes it mainly for magnetic window cleaners, but the same head works as a handheld or pole-mounted squeegee and on tables, walls and whiteboards.
Does it remove streaks completely?
The patent says the trailing blade removes the water and dirt left by the pad. Results depend on the blade material and the glass; we test on samples.
Can the blades and pads be replaced?
Yes. Replaceable blades and pads are recommended and can be sold as refills.
How much does the frame tilt?
The patent gives a range of 5-25°; the exact angle is set in design.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is still in force in China, where making or selling it would need the owner’s permission. Other window-cleaner designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.

No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
