What the claims cover, in plain language

Claim 1 - a stroller with a frame and seat; each of two side frames is a foldable four-bar linkage of handle bar, front leg, link and rear leg. Unfolded, the handle-to-front-leg hinge is higher than the handle-to-rear-leg hinge; when folded, the handle bar and rear leg rotate toward the front leg from its two sides. The handle bar is telescoping, with a lower handle hinged to both legs and a sliding upper handle.

Claim 2 - a retractable positioning pin in the upper handle and a matching hole in the lower handle. Claim 3 - a spring driving the pin, and a release switch with a slider pulling the pin free by a second cable. Claim 4 - a locking mechanism: a notch on the front leg, a retractable lock tongue at the handle bar end driven by a first spring, a first cable from the slider and a driver that pulls the tongue out. What this means for US production

Two points to settle early:

  • Other patents may exist. Stroller folding mechanisms are heavily patented by large stroller brands, and compact travel strollers have been the subject of US patent disputes, so a freedom-to-operate (FTO) review of the linkage, telescoping handle and release is essential before tooling.
  • Child-safety testing. Locks, hinge pinch points and stability are tested to the US stroller standard by an accepted lab before any sale.
