Cordless Electric Shoe Scrubber That Feeds Cleaner Through the Center of the Brush

Cleaning sneakers by hand means a bowl of soapy water, an old toothbrush and a mess on the counter. Powered shoe brushes exist, but most still need the cleaner squirted on by hand, and putting a liquid tank next to a battery invites leaks. This design, filed by a Haier washing-machine company, keeps them apart. The cleaner tank snaps onto the top of the brush head, away from the battery in the handle, and a spring-loaded check valve seals it the moment it is pulled off. In the head, a motor turns the drive shaft through a pair of gears, set off to one side so the shaft can be hollow. A small pump pushes cleaner down through that shaft to a nozzle at the center of the spinning brush, so the liquid lands exactly where the bristles work.

Cordless Electric Shoe Scrubber That Feeds Cleaner Through the Center of the Brush - patent drawing

🌀

Spinning brush

A motor in the head turns a round brush through a pair of gears.

💧

Center liquid feed

A pump sends cleaner down a hollow drive shaft to a nozzle in the middle of the brush.

🧴

Snap-off tank with valve

The cleaner tank sits on top of the head; a check valve seals it when removed.

🔋

Battery kept dry

The battery sits in the handle, separate from the tank, reducing leak risk.

The problem

Shoes - especially white sneakers - get dirty fast, and cleaning them by hand is slow and messy. According to the patent, existing brushing devices are hard to use on shoes and inconvenient. Simply adding a pump and tank to a powered brush raises another issue: if the tank sits in the handle next to the battery, a leak can reach the electrics, and a tank that drips when removed makes a mess.

The solution

  1. The housing (1) has a head cavity (13) and a handle cavity (14). The brush head (2) sits outside the head cavity.
  2. In the head cavity are a brush drive (3) - a motor unit (31) and a drive shaft (32) that comes out of the housing to the brush - and a liquid drive (4), a small pump.
  3. The battery (7) is in the handle cavity, powering both drives.
  4. A cleaner tank (5) is removably fitted to the top of the head cavity, outside both cavities. Its outlet has a check valve - a perforated baffle, a spring and a plug - that closes when the tank is removed and is pushed open by a pin on the housing when it is fitted.
  5. The drive shaft has a through hole (321) along its axis. The motor is offset from the shaft and drives it through gears, leaving the center of the shaft free for liquid.
  6. Around the shaft, the housing forms a liquid chamber with a rotating seal. The pump pushes cleaner into the chamber, through the hollow shaft and out of a nozzle with a smaller hole and a bowl-shaped tip at the center of the brush.

Using it

  1. Fill the tank with water and shoe cleaner and snap it onto the head.
  2. Switch on - the brush spins and the pump feeds cleaner to the brush center.
  3. Scrub the uppers, midsoles and outsoles; change brush heads for soft or stiff bristles.
  4. Pull off the tank to rinse it - the valve keeps it from dripping - and charge the handle.

Applications

Sneaker cleaning at home

Owners of white and knit sneakers can clean them at the sink in a few minutes.

Sneaker cleaning services and resellers

Shops that restore sneakers for sale get a faster tool for the scrubbing step.

Sports teams and schools

Cleats and court shoes caked in mud are cleaned without a bucket.

Bags, caps and gear

The same brush works on canvas bags, caps and other small fabric items.

Small household surfaces

With a different brush head it can scrub tile grout, sinks and stove knobs.

Where it is less suitable

  • Suede and delicate leather - a spinning brush and liquid can damage them; soft heads and dry cleaning methods are needed.
  • Large floor areas - this is a handheld spot-cleaning tool, not a floor scrubber.
  • Fully submerged use - the housing is splash-resistant by design, not waterproof for immersion unless specified.

Frequently asked questions

How does the cleaner reach the brush?

A small pump pushes cleaner from the tank into a chamber around the drive shaft. The shaft is hollow, so the liquid runs down through it and out of a nozzle at the center of the spinning brush.

Why doesn’t the tank drip when I take it off?

Its outlet has a spring-loaded check valve. A pin on the housing pushes it open when the tank is fitted; when the tank is pulled off, the spring closes it.

Is it safe to use with water near the battery?

The battery sits in the handle, separate from the tank and the head. The finished tool is still tested for water ingress and given an IP rating.

Which shoes can it clean?

Canvas, knit, mesh, rubber and smooth leather sneakers are the main targets. Suede and delicate leathers need soft heads and gentle cleaners.

Can the brush heads be changed?

Yes. Heads with different bristle stiffness, sponges or pads can share one quick-change fitting.

How long does the battery last?

Run time depends on the motor, pump and battery capacity chosen, and is measured on prototypes.

Can this design be made and sold in the US?

The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is in force in China until January 2031 at most, and making or selling it there needs the owner’s permission. Powered scrub brushes may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
