Patent CN216438960U
Updated October 25, 2026Motorized Hot Pot Chopsticks with Rotating, Detachable Magnetic Tips
In hot pot, shabu-shabu and fondue, diners hold thin slices of meat in boiling broth for a few seconds. The side pressed against the chopstick tips cooks least, so people swish and turn the slice by hand. This chopstick does the turning. The upper half, about 147 mm long, is a hollow shell holding a rechargeable battery, a micro stepper motor and a control board. A strip of small switches runs along the side where the fingers grip. When the diner squeezes to hold the food, the switches start the motor, which turns the lower half back and forth so the slice is flipped between positions in the broth. The 100 mm lower half is held on by magnets and a locating key, so it pulls off for washing.
- China utility model - in force in China until Dec 2031 at most
- No filings outside China
- Asian tableware & hot pot dining
- Food-grade resin or steel, micro motor, Li-ion cell

Splat! What let you down?
🍲
Turns the food for you
A micro motor rotates the lower half back and forth so a held slice cooks on both sides.
🤏
Squeeze to start
A row of small switches under the fingers starts the motor when you grip.
🧲
Magnetic detachable tip
The lower half snaps onto a keyed connector with magnets and pulls off for washing.
🔌
Rechargeable handle
Two charging pins under a cap at the top end charge the built-in battery.

The problem
Hot pot and shabu-shabu are cooked at the table: each diner holds thin slices of meat or vegetables in boiling broth for a few seconds. According to the patent, the part of the food clamped between the chopstick tips is shielded from the broth, so food can be unevenly cooked unless the diner keeps turning it - a food-safety concern for meat and seafood.
The solution
- The chopstick is an upper half (1) and a lower half (2) joined end to end into one slim rod - about 250 mm long in the patent’s example, similar to an ordinary chopstick.
- The upper half is a hollow shell with a drive cavity. Inside is a reciprocating drive assembly (4): a battery tube (41) with a micro drive motor (42) at one end, a battery (43), a switch assembly (44) set into the outside face, and a protective cap (45) at the top holding a control board (46).
- The motor turns a connector (3) at the lower end of the upper half. The lower half clips onto the connector and turns with it.
- The switch assembly is two conductive rods (441) held by insulating rods (442), with several micro switches (443) side by side - so the motor starts wherever the diner’s fingers press.
- The lower half is held by magnets in its end face and in the connector, and a key and groove align them.
- Two charging pins (451) on the top cap, protected by a cover, charge the battery.

Who it is for
- Kitchen gadget brands looking for a hot pot or fondue accessory with a visible “it moves” demo.
- Asian tableware and hot pot supply companies selling to restaurants and home hot pot fans in North America.
- Hot pot restaurant chains wanting a signature table item or retail merchandise.
- Gift and novelty sellers for Lunar New Year, holiday and foodie gift seasons.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Upper half | Hollow handle with the drive cavity. |
| 2 | Lower half | Tapered tip; detachable. |
| 3 | Connector | Turned by the motor; holds the lower half by magnets. |
| 41-43 | Battery tube, motor, battery | The drive unit. |
| 44 | Switch assembly | Row of micro switches along the grip. |
| 45, 46 | Top cap and control board | Control electronics. |
| 451 | Charging pins | Under a protective cover. |
Using it
- Charge the chopsticks through the pins on the top cap.
- Snap on the lower halves - the key lines them up and the magnets hold them.
- Pick up a slice and hold it in the broth; squeezing the grip presses the switches.
- The tips turn back and forth, moving the food so both faces meet the broth.
- Pull off the lower halves after the meal and wash them; wipe the handles.

Applications
Home hot pot nights
Families hosting hot pot get a conversation-piece utensil that also turns the meat.
Hot pot and shabu-shabu restaurants
Restaurants can offer premium chopsticks to members or sell them as branded take-home merchandise.
Fondue and table grilling
The same turning tip helps with cheese and broth fondue and Korean table-side cooking.
Children and new users
People still learning chopsticks get help keeping food moving while it cooks.
Gifts
Rechargeable, boxed chopsticks suit holiday and Lunar New Year gift lists.
Where it is less suitable
- Everyday eating - for normal meals a plain chopstick is lighter and simpler.
- Dishwashers - only the detachable lower halves can be machine-washed; the handle holds electronics.
- Very low-cost restaurant use - a motorized utensil costs far more than disposable chopsticks.
Frequently asked questions
What exactly moves?
The lower half of the chopstick. A micro motor in the handle turns the connector, and the lower half turns back and forth with it, so the food held between the tips changes position in the broth.
How does the motor start?
A strip of small switches runs along the grip. When the diner squeezes to hold food, a switch is pressed and the motor runs; letting go stops it.
Can they be washed?
The lower halves pull off - they are held by magnets and a locating key - and can be washed like ordinary chopsticks. The handle is wiped clean.
How are they charged?
The patent puts two charging pins under a cover on the top cap. A charging dock or case for a pair is a common design choice.
Do both chopsticks need a motor?
The patent describes one chopstick. A pair can have one motorized and one plain chopstick, or both motorized - set in design for cost and feel.
What materials touch the food?
The patent mentions food-grade plastic, resin or stainless steel. The lower half is made from a food-contact compliant material that tolerates boiling broth.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is in force in China until December 2031 at most, and making or selling it there needs the owner’s permission. Motorized utensils may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
Are you affiliated with the patent owner?
No. IP2M is an independent design and manufacturing service working from the public patent document.
