Patent CN216534262U
Updated October 23, 2026Backpack with Removable Body-Shaped Inner Frame
Most backpacks hang their whole load from two shoulder straps. This design puts a lift-out inner frame inside the bag, shaped to the human back: a spine bar, curved ribs that wrap toward the lower ribs, and a base plate that sits at the back of the pelvis. The frame holds the bag's shape and spreads the weight over the back and hips. It lifts out so the bag can be washed.

🦴
Inner frame shaped to the back
A spine bar and curved waist ribs follow the shape of the back; the patent bases the shape on CT data from 300 adults.
⚖️
Load on back and hips
A base plate rests at the back of the pelvis, so the load is not carried by the shoulders alone.
🧺
Lifts out for washing
The frame is a separate part sized to the bag - take it out and the bag can be cleaned like any other.
🎽
Harness with chest straps
One-piece shoulder straps, adjustable lower straps and two cross straps that buckle at chest height.

The problem
A conventional backpack is a soft bag on two shoulder straps. The weight hangs from the shoulders and presses on a small area of the back, and when the bag is not full it sags out of shape. The patent describes the result as an uneven load on the body, with strain in the shoulders and lower back for people who carry a bag every day.
The solution
The patent adds a separate inner frame (2) that sits inside the backpack (1):
- The frame has a vertical enclosure (21) that lies against the back panel: a spine bar (211) along the line of the spine and waist ribs (212) that curve forward toward the lower ribs in a half-wrap.
- A base plate (22), molded in one piece with the enclosure, lies across the bottom of the bag and is shaped to sit at the back of the pelvis. It carries the load of the frame and the bag.
- Connecting ribs (23) cross the base plate and enclosure to stiffen the frame.
- The shapes are based on CT measurements of 300 adults, according to the patent. The frame is slightly smaller than the bag, so it fits without rattling.
- The frame is independent of the bag - it lifts out, so the bag can be washed.
The patent’s stated aim is to spread the load over the back, waist and shoulders and to keep the bag in shape.

Who it is for
- Backpack brands wanting an “ergonomic frame” line for commuters, students or travelers.
- Work-bag and tool-bag brands whose customers carry heavy loads every day.
- Outdoor and travel brands looking for a structured daypack that keeps its shape.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Backpack | The bag body. |
| 11 | Bag frame | Outer structure of the bag. |
| 12 | Main compartment | Storage space, joined to the frame. |
| 13 | Back panel | Fixed at the bottom; zips to the bag along its other edges. |
| 15 | Zipper | Opens the back panel - this is how the inner frame goes in and out. |
| 14 | Harness | Shoulder straps (141), lower fixing straps (142) with adjusters, cross straps (143). |
| 2 | Inner frame | Separate support, sized to the bag. |
| 21 | Enclosure | Upright part against the back panel. |
| 211 | Spine bar | Follows the line of the spine. |
| 212 | Waist ribs | Curve toward the lower ribs in a half-wrap. |
| 22 | Base plate | Bottom support shaped to sit at the back of the pelvis. |
| 23 | Connecting ribs | Criss-cross ribs that stiffen the frame. |
The patent lists polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, stainless steel or aluminum alloy for the frame.
Wearing it

- Pack the bag - the frame keeps it upright and square.
- Put it on with the one-piece shoulder straps (141).
- Adjust the lower straps (142) so the base plate sits at the lower back.
- Buckle the two cross straps (143) at chest height to hold the bag in place.
Cleaning it
- Unzip the back panel (13) along its zipper (15).
- Lift out the inner frame (2).
- Wash the bag, wipe the frame, and slide the frame back in.
Applications
Commuter and laptop backpacks
A structured bag that keeps its shape and spreads a daily load.
Student backpacks for older students
Heavy books every day; the frame and chest straps keep the bag close to the body.
Work and tool backpacks
Technicians and tradespeople carrying heavy tools and meters.
Travel daypacks
A bag that stands up on its own and packs neatly.
Premium “ergonomic” lines
A visible, demonstrable feature for a higher-priced range - the frame can be shown out of the bag.
Where it is less suitable
- Ultralight or packable bags - a rigid frame adds weight and cannot be folded away.
- Medical claims - the bag can be described as spreading the load; it should not be sold as treating or preventing back conditions without proper evidence.
Frequently asked questions
What does the inner frame do?
It holds the bag in shape and rests against the back and the back of the pelvis, so the load is spread over the back and hips instead of hanging only from the shoulders.
Is the frame removable?
Yes. It is a separate part, sized to the bag. Unzip the back panel, lift it out, and the bag can be washed.
What is the frame made of?
The patent lists polyethylene, polypropylene, PVC, stainless steel or aluminum alloy. A molded plastic frame is the usual choice for weight and cost.
Does one frame fit everyone?
The patent bases the shape on CT data from 300 adults. For a product range, frames can be made in several sizes for different torso lengths.
Can we say it is good for the spine?
Comfort and load-distribution claims are fine with testing to back them up. Claims about treating or preventing back conditions need medical evidence and can change how the product is regulated, so we recommend avoiding them.
Can it be made for children?
Yes, with a frame sized for children and CPSIA testing and labeling for the US market.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is still in force in China, where making or selling it would need the owner’s permission. Other framed-backpack designs may be patented - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
