Patent CN216580316U
Updated October 25, 2026Headlamp-to-Bumper Adapter Bracket That Sets Gap and Flush in Three Directions
On a car's front end, the gap between headlamp and bumper is one of the first things a customer sees. Because the headlamp is fixed to the body and the bumper to its own brackets, small tolerances add up and the gap ends up wide in one place and tight in another. This bracket links the two parts directly. It is screwed to the bottom of the headlamp housing, using the lamp's own locating pin. Along its front edge, a row of support blocks carries the bumper's upper flange and sets its height, and a staggered row of snap blocks with downward teeth clips into holes in the flange to fix it fore-aft and side to side.
- China utility model - in force in China until Oct 2031 at most
- No filings outside China
- Automotive body & lighting parts
- Injection-molded PP or PA, thin-wall ribbed

Splat! What let you down?
🚗
One reference for two parts
The bracket hangs on the headlamp, so the bumper is located from the lamp itself.
⬆️
Height set by support blocks
A row of coplanar blocks holds up the bumper's top flange (Z direction).
🔗
Snap teeth for X and Y
Snap blocks with downward teeth clip into the flange and fix it fore-aft and sideways.
🧱
Light ribbed body
A thin-wall body stiffened by vertical and horizontal ribs on the back.

The problem
The headlamp is bolted to the car body; the front bumper is held by its own brackets. Each part has tolerances, and so does the body. According to the patent, without a direct link the gap and flush between headlamp and bumper are hard to control, and the car can miss its appearance-quality targets. Shimming and rework on the assembly line cost time.
The solution
- A bracket body (1) is screwed to the bottom of the headlamp housing (6). A cross locating pin (7) on the housing positions the bracket in a main-and-secondary locating scheme, so the bracket always sits in the same place relative to the lamp.
- Along the bracket’s front edge, a row of support blocks (2) with coplanar top faces carries the upper flange (9) of the front bumper (8). This locates the bumper in height (Z).
- Between them, staggered with the support blocks, snap blocks (3) with downward clamping teeth (3a) clip into holes in the flange, locating the bumper fore-aft (X) and side to side (Y). A reinforcing rib (3b) joins each snap block to the body.
- The bracket is a thin-wall part; vertical ribs (4) and horizontal ribs (5) on its back keep it stiff and light.

Who it is for
- Automotive tier-1 and tier-2 suppliers of lighting and exterior trim looking for a proven bracket concept for new vehicle programs.
- EV start-ups and low-volume vehicle makers who need to hit good gap-and-flush quality without expensive line adjustment.
- Collision-repair and aftermarket parts makers producing replacement headlamp brackets and bumper supports.
- Specialty vehicle and kit-car builders fitting production headlamps to their own bumpers.
How it works
The main parts

| No. | Part | What it does |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Bracket body | Thin-wall part screwed under the headlamp. |
| 2 | Support blocks | Hold up the bumper flange - height location. |
| 3 | Snap blocks | Clip into the flange - fore-aft and side location. |
| 3a | Clamping teeth | Downward teeth on the snap blocks. |
| 3b | Reinforcing rib | Joins each snap block to the body. |
| 4, 5 | Vertical and horizontal ribs | Stiffen the back of the bracket. |
| 6 | Headlamp | The lamp the bracket hangs on. |
| 7 | Cross locating pin | Positions the bracket on the lamp. |
| 8, 9 | Front bumper and flange | The part being located. |
On the assembly line
- Fit the bracket to the headlamp housing over the locating pin and screw it in place - this can be done at the lamp supplier.
- Install the headlamp on the car.
- Fit the bumper - its upper flange rests on the support blocks and the snap blocks click into the flange holes.
- Check - the gap and flush follow from the lamp’s position, with no shimming.

Applications
New passenger-car programs
Front-end designs with tight headlamp-to-bumper gaps benefit from locating the bumper off the lamp.
Electric vehicles with smooth front ends
EVs with closed grilles show every gap; a direct link keeps the front face even.
Replacement brackets for collision repair
After a crash, repairers need brackets that restore the original fit without adjustment.
Low-volume and specialty vehicles
Small-series builders without fine-tuned body lines get repeatable fit from a simple molded part.
Rear-lamp and fascia variants
The same idea - locating a fascia from a lamp - can be adapted to tail lamps and rear bumpers.
Where it is less suitable
- Universal aftermarket fit - each bracket is specific to one headlamp and bumper pair; it is not a one-size accessory.
- Metal bumpers on trucks - heavy steel bumpers need bolted mounts, not snap blocks.
- Programs already in production - changing the locating scheme mid-cycle needs re-validation.
Frequently asked questions
What problem does the bracket solve?
It locates the front bumper directly from the headlamp, so the gap and flush between the two parts follow one reference instead of adding up the tolerances of the body, lamp and bumper.
Which directions does it control?
Support blocks set the bumper’s height (Z). Snap blocks with teeth clip into the flange and set fore-aft (X) and side-to-side (Y) position.
Will it fit my car?
Only if it is designed for that car. The bracket is shaped around one headlamp housing and one bumper flange; we need CAD or sample parts.
What material is it made from?
The patent describes a thin-wall ribbed part; material is chosen in design, usually a glass-filled nylon or talc-filled PP that stays stiff in engine-bay heat.
Is it installed at the lamp supplier or on the line?
Either. Screwing it to the lamp at the supplier means the lamp arrives at the line ready to receive the bumper.
Can you supply it as a replacement part?
Yes, for a specific vehicle, once fit has been checked on that vehicle.
Can this design be made and sold in the US?
The patent was filed only in China, so it does not restrict the design in the US. It is in force in China until October 2031 at most, and making or selling it there needs the owner’s permission. Headlamp and bumper mounting brackets may be covered by other US patents - see Patent & Production - so we recommend a freedom-to-operate check before volume production.
