Parents buy baby gear on safety first, then on convenience: how easily it folds, travels and stores. The patents in this collection look at that second part. The first is a rocking bassinet frame that folds into a slim bundle - telescopic cross tubes lock into a central hub, the bed rails fold on hinged links, the legs come apart in two sections and curved rockers give a gentle motion. The second is a stroller seat in which the backrest, seat and armrest share one hinge: pushing the backrest forward unlocks the armrest and folds the seat flat in one movement.

What to look for in this category: baby products are among the most regulated consumer products in the US. Bassinets, cribs, play yards, high chairs and strollers each have a mandatory CPSC standard, third-party testing by an accepted lab, a Children’s Product Certificate, tracking labels, warnings and, for many products, a registration card. Qualified brands that work with us handle certification; we design and build to the standard from the first prototype.

Recent additions include a travel crib whose top rails fold down automatically as the A-frame legs are closed - one movement and one lock - and a stroller or rocker whose motor turns the wheels a short way back and forth to rock the seat, with a clutch that frees the wheels for normal pushing.
